2. Marist "Battleground states" seem a larger group than those still in play
17 States are "Battleground"
Iowa, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, New Mexico, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Washington, Wisconsin, Arkansas, Arizona, Florida, Missouri, Nevada, New Hampshire, Ohio, and West Virginia.

3. I'm not so sure about that
we've seen varying polls from all of those states showing either a close race or a tightening of the gap between Kerry and Bush.

6. "close race" is the race nationally and in most states - I just
wondered if each polling group used the same definition of "Battleground states" when they give the horse race numbers for those states?

7. "Swayable" voters not happy with Bush
Marist defines swayable voters as those who are undecided or who may not stick with their current choice.

This group is decidedly anti-Bush.

Direction of the country: 36% right direction, 59% wrong direction.
Bush's handling of situation in Iraq: 30% approve, 58% disapprove.
Bush's handling of economy: 30% approve, 61% disapprove.

76% would like to hear more about economic or domestic issues during the campaign, while 20% would like to hear more about homeland security, the situation in Iraq or the war on terrorism.
