Moronic LTTE - Help me Respond
The following appeared in the local rag today:

Do you want a debater or a leader for President?
If you want a leader, vote for Pres. *. If you want a debater, vote for Kerry.

My response: I want a leader who is intelligent and informed and needs no help, electronic or otherwise, in a debate. Bush is a hopeless lightweight who deserves to be sent back to Crawford where he can engage in activities he professes to enjoy like talking to cows and digging for bugs. Leave the tough job of leading the nation, repairing alliances, getting out of the mess in Iraq, providing jobs and health care for Americans, and making us safe and secure to the thoughtful, articulate man who will work hard to undo all of the damage done by the Bush administration -- Sen. John Kerry.

Anything you'd change, add, delete?

1. The correct answer is that we want both...
and that man is John Kerry.

2. Concise and to the point.
I'd second that response.

3. Where Have We Been Led?
George Bush certainly is a leader. He led us blind into the worst attack on Ameican soil in living memory. He led us into the largest deficits in our history. He led us into the worst job market since the Great Depression. He led us into the most unjustifiable military operation since American was founded. I don't think we can survive another four years of George Bush's "leadership".

4. Looks fine to me
Brief and to the point. I might be tempted to leave out the "Sen." in "Sen. John Kerry" at the end of the letter, but that's it.

5. Very good response you've written....
I've noticed when Bush gives a so-called speech he has to read from notes. I've seen him turn pages while speaking. Also you could add something about Bush needing others to run the country for him...Cheney, Rumsfeld, etc.

6. We need a real leader, not a cheerleader. <eom>

7. The writer forgot to specify what "leader" means...
If you want a leader to lead us into the toilet, vote *.

Just because someone is defined as a "leader" it doesn't necessarily mean that this person is a positive leader. Jim Jones was a leader and so was Charles Manson.

And yes, I want a debater as a President, one who is capable to put a few coherent sentences together, one who can debate with the rest of the world and the American people to find a consensus on how to best proceed in domestic and international affairs. I do not want someone who stubbornly follows his own beliefs (religious or otherwise) to the detriment of facts, science and common sense.
