U.S. Expatriates Catching Election Fever
Anticipation and anxiety are running high among American expatriates as the U.S. presidential election approaches, and local activists are running an unprecedented drive to get out the vote.

U.S. citizens in Moscow say the Nov. 2 election has a sense of added urgency due to the narrowness of President George W. Bush's victory in 2000 and the wide partisan divide that has opened up over the war on Iraq and concerns about the domestic economy.

"If George Bush is elected to another four years, we won't have an America to go home to," said Mark Sleboda, chairman of Democrats Abroad in Russia. "That's my feeling and the feeling of every Democrat I've talked to."

1. When I was living in Russia,
I didn't even bother -- I figured my mail wouldn't even get back in time. Now, I might make an effort.

2. Well, Nadya
I remember thinking (while in Russia) that the difference between Dems and Repukes in the US is so small. It's not like Zhirinovsky is on the ballot or something.
Would it be different now?

:kick:

4. We still have so much mail lost when we send letters there...
...or when they send us letters here...

5. Yup, it's a pain.
When I was studying in the south, it would take two months for stuff to go back and forth. When I was living in St. Pete, we used a mail service that would drive our mail to Finland and pick it up and bring it to us. We'd get things in two weeks, that way, and I never had anything lost.

7. It worked well,
Until I tried to send a stolen license plate out. They weren't thrilled about that.

10. LOL
No, last I saw him, he was taking a long nap in his house. And by the way, who did he have to execute to get those digs? Smack in the middle of Red Square!
