Panic setting in among right-wing nuts
I try to post on non-partisan boards where there may be some undecided voters lurking. I'm seeing the right-wing nuts melting down "big time" (as Dick would say). Here's an example (I can't believe that the right is showing its true colors so openly):

What a bunch of shit. Kerry supporters are fast food workers, fruit pickers, Black sharecroppers, Birkenstock-wearing people who think it's still 1969, dead people (in some sities), college kids taking money from Mom, Hollywood wannabes ,scared old buzzards ("Bush... will... cut... social... security..."), various malcontents, etc.
. . .
Where do you fit?
Unfortunately, these worthless fucks make up almost half of the country. If it rains on election day, most of these pigs will stay home.

I think the right-wing melt down is pushing any undecideds or "soft Bush" voters our way.

14. I didn't say THIS guy was non-partisan (he's the "right-wing nut"
I referred to. The website where he and I and others post is non-partisan. Lots of posters (including me) have jumped down this guy's throat for his racist and ignorant post. Here was my response:

REPUBLICAN ELECTORAL COLLEGE MATH:

"Black sharecroppers" + fruit pickers + fast food workers + college kids + Birkenstock-wearing people + "scared old buzzards" = "half the country" = "worthless fucks" = "pigs"

You think half the good people in America are worthless fucks? Do you really believe that your vision of America is a majority view or just a majority view among your fellow Bush supporters?

I think most Kerry supporters have the minimum standard that our president should be smarter than most of the electorate.

I even drive a BMW.

I think these people are on crack. Geez, look at the cities, NY, SF, LA, Chicago, they will all go for Kerry. These cities are filled with educated, professional people like us.

Anyone who really believes that Kerry will check in with the French before he defends our country is just stupid. There isn't any polite way to state it. Just stupid.

16. It's war at all costs for them ...
From what I've seen on the right to moderate sites I visit, it's pure war. It's not about being "right" in any way. It's not about doing what's best for the country. It's certainly not about making rational arguments. It's about winning, at all costs.

As a rational person, this used to upset me a great deal. Ad it still upsets me, but at least I feel like I understand it now. If you haven't done so yet, please read Ron Suskind's essay, "Beyond a Doubt," from New York Times Magazine. If you don't want to give NYT Mag. your e-mail address, you can find the text of the essay HERE. It's the second entry in that thread.

Suskind makes it clear that the forces of reality (us, the rational people) are at war with the forces of faith (them, the irrational people). Bush's followers are, many of them, completely irrational in their devotion to Shrub (the burning Bush). That's why you can't discuss issues with them. It's not about rational discussion. It's a good vs. evil issue to them. They're good, so they believe, and good must triumph over evil (at all costs).

Scary stuff. :scared:

27. It kind of makes me think of the populists under
William Jennings Bryan. And later on he is on the losing side of the Scopes Trial - opposing evolution being taught in schools. These fundies need to be kept in check.
I fear a fusion of church and state if this faith movement is allowed to expand.

With religion you have things like Jonestown, Guyana or the Children's Crusades.

And unlike the "faithful" I can't suscribe to a doctrine of the ends justifying the means. They don't see the danger of what they would unleash.

49. I got to hear Margaret Atwood talk about this last year.
One of the things that she said was there are historical events in American history this book was based on. Nothing she wrote about had not happened in some way before.

There are some who would prefer a theocracy if they can be on top.

Another very interesting book is The Devils of Loudoun by Aldous Huxley.

I would also read Oryx and Crake by Atwood too. Its even more scarey.

But this year, I am a committee person. If it's raining and my Democrats don't show up, I'm going to their houses and banging down the door and DRIVING them to the polls.

Anyone who is CONTENT with the status quo in America in 2004 is either white, heterosexual, rich, connected, or seriously f*cked up. I used to respect those across the aisle as having a mere difference of approach; but I have no respect for a party that has become nothing more than a support system for treason, murder, bigotry, hypocrisy, theft, and ignorance.

Period.

Newly arrived college educated immigrants who believe in hard work and giving a helping hand, equality for all people regardless of faith (or lack of it), color, sexual orientation, gender or even (gasp!) political party(ies), with a strong belief in the spirit of the 1st Amendment and the conviction that only when we work together we can better ourselves, because we all share this little ball of mud, this speck of dust in the universe.

question: What does this hillbilly mean when he refers to "sities"? The answer:

I think "sities" is where poor mountaineers go when they strike bubblin' crude (oil that is, black gold, Texas tea) while they's shootin' at some food. I understand that these "sities" have swimmin' pools and movie stars.

Really. I thought they were a form of lederhosen, but without the leather (Leder). I was 25 in 1969, but I've had a very sheltered life. I can't find Birkenstocks in the dictionary.

If you're expecting the R's to keep their lies straight, I'm afraid you're going to be seriously disappointed.

(I know your tone was ironic. Couldn't resist.)

44. That's hilarious!
I'm a small business owner, who's married, white, working, church-going, and who's always been a liberal Democrat.

Strangely, Birkenstocks hurt my feet. Rykas, on the other hand, (made in America and made for women) make my feet float on air!

Except for the tired Birkenstock feet, I'm hardly a malcontent at all. Doesn't take much to make me happy: Good music, a few dogs, fresh air, DU and Air America. :))

75. Let's add ourselves to his "list"
Just so it's more accurate:

I'm a Kerry supporter. I neither pick fruit nor work in fast food (nor do I see what difference this makes if I did), I don't wear Birkenstocks, I wasn't even born in 1969, I'm very much alive and I live in a C-I-T-Y (I can also spell), I paid my way through college with hard work and merit scholarships, and I have no desire to be a celebrity (again, why does this matter?). I am very unhappy with our current fascist-regime-in-sheep's-clothing so I guess if that makes me a malcontent then so be it. I am also a taxpayer, a wife, an artist, a working woman, a sister, a daughter and a friend. I am educated, enlightened and well-spoken. I'm not racist, sexist, or homophobic.

I think the POTUS should be incredibly intelligent, able to think on his or her feet, and able to make decisions based on fact and reality. I also want a president who is gracious and diplomatic, can admit mistakes and take responsibility for his or her actions, and cares about our country more than his or her personal agenda. I do not give a rat's ass whether I would go drinking with the POTUS. And I sure as hell hope that people like me make up MORE than half of the country or we're all in trouble.

Lastly, I am perfectly capable of wearing whatever outerwear is necessary to get me to the polls warm and dry on election day. If this fool thinks a little rain is going to keep us away, he is in for a BIG surprise. A freaking blizzard wouldn't stop me from voting Dumbya out of office.

78. "Black sharecroppers." How very republican.
Whenever I post on such a board (which is rare) I often use the phrase "How very republican" as part, or all, of my response to such a comment. I also use it in conversation with republicans. It enrages some republicans and leads to even more lying, hate mongering, rhetoric which causes some independent minded people to be repulsed. It is very effective.

80. Well, if Bush and his kind have their way, that ignorant white male
is going to be doing fruit picking, fast food service and sharecropping to just stay alive!!---or, he will be doing whatever he does for work with the wages of the fruit picker, fast food worker and sharecropper!!!---the Bush/Corporate cartel wants peon labor at all levels: blue and white collar. They have done a hell of a job busting blue collars down into the dirt and they are well on their way now to do the same to white collars.

Am I not supposed to be a typical Repub (most of my SAHM friends are!)
My husband was a military officer and put up with five years of being yelled at and put down for supporting Clinton. My husband's a professional now w/ a civilian firm and I'd say MOST Of the management is supporting Kerry (mainly b/c of Iraq and the economy)
