"If I knew then what I know now about what kind of situation we would be in, I would have opposed the war." - William F. Buckley Jr.

You know, William, you could have asked any of us. We'd have told you.

3. He personifies elitism & intellectual snobbery.
I've never thought he was clever or classy.

7. It's because with him it's all "appearance" and not "substance."
The same kind of thing plagues bloggers with regard to "real journalists" working for "big media"... funny that. We're not taking the money, so we must not be credible... is that it?

Ha!

4. Yes, apparently we liberal schmucks are better at foreign policy
than any number of journalists, political commentators, and foreign policy "experts."

I have suspected that for a long time, however!

5. Of course. "Conservative" often means "behind the times".
If you want to read some really interesting stuff, look up some of the things that Bill Buckley wrote during the civil rights movement.

I'll give you a hint -- he wasn't too much in favor of it....

9. Wow Will
if you only look at one side of a coin and never turn it over to see the other side, after awhile you'll be convinced that there's only one side to the coin.

6. William F. Buckley is the type of person ...
that motivated the French to invent the guillotine. Lives in his gated community and looks down upon us common rabble. Speaks with some kind of phony accent that makes me want to punch out his lights.

13. well, the accent is real. They taught that accent in all the prep schools
it was THE way to speak in the right circles. Slightly British-but-not-really. Actors and actresses used it too, even newscasters. Wonder when they stopped?

15. Y'know, I remember seeing Bill Buckley on TV when I was around 9-10...
... hawking "National Review" magazine -- and all I could ever think of, even at that age, was, "God, is this guy a self-righteous, arrogant asshole, or what?"
