*** Help to get F9/11 aired on Public Access!!! ***
Edited on Thu Oct-21-04 05:41 PM by zaj
Please contact your local Public Access channel to get F9/11 aired between now and the election.

If you are able to make the arrangements, please promote it as well by calling the local paper in advance of the airing and by calling into your local talk shows. Create a local buzz to attract viewership.

ARIZONA DAILY STAR

A Tucson woman has succeeded where director Michael Moore failed: She is making sure the anti-Bush documentary "Fahrenheit 9/11" gets on television before the Nov. 2 election. Radio producer Elaine Higginbotham has Moore's permission to air the controversial film on local public-access television. The broadcast means that an estimated 150,000 local cable subscribers could be among a select few able to view the film without having to rent the DVD.

...

Higginbotham asked Moore if she could air "Fahrenheit 9/11" when he visited Tucson on Oct. 11 as part of a national speaking tour. His response to her request, she said, was unequivocal and captured on tape.

"Yes, of course," he said. "Burn, baby, burn. Please do that … and please try to get as many people as possible to see it before the election."

Moore could not be reached for comment, but Behrend said Higginbotham signed a release indicating she has permission to air the film.

...

Spokesmen for both companies say they do not exercise any "editorial control" over cable access programming. The same holds true for the city and Access Tucson. "It really is a public forum and the only restriction really is that the programs be noncommercial," Behrend said.

4. Give it a try... contact your local Public Access station...
According to Moore:

"Yes, of course," he said. "Burn, baby, burn. Please do that … and please try to get as many people as possible to see it before the election."

Maybe that gives you permission to do the same.

9. I think he already HAS given universal permission.
He's encouraging people to copy it and pass it on, and to give free public screenings. I'm guessing this is just fine with him too.

13. I've also emailed him...
And emailed his "F911forfree" group (they are organizing the showing of the film for free by video stores). We shall see what happens.

Also, do we have any AAR callers here? Maybe someone can call into Majority Report and spread the idea on the air.

24. Problem - you have to be "certified" to use production facilities
"If the Cablevision system in your area provides Production Facilities, in order for a resident of Cablevision Service Area to use any of these facilities, such resident must first become a "Qualified Access User" by successfully passing a competency exam which measures your understanding of the use of Cablevision's Production Facilities. You may take the exam based upon your prior experience or after the completion of training in a workshop sponsored by Cablevision or another cable operator. For your convenience, Cablevision provides training workshops throughout the year to qualify potential users."
http://www.cablevision.com/index.jhtml?pageType=access_qa

Therefore - you have to get someone production certified to make the application for public access, such as the woman in Arizona who if I recall correctly was a producer.

Do we have these kinds of contacts and how quickly can we get to them?

27. Hey Jersey...
If your system does it the way mine does, you have to be certified to "use the facilities," that is, the cameras, the studios, the edit suites, etc.

But as a citizen of your community, you can put anything on your access channel as a sponsor. It doesn't have to be something you made with their equipment - nor does it have to be something you made period. It could be anything, as long as you follow copyright rules.

So if you got permission from MM for F911, you could, as a citizen of your community, sponsor its airing on your access channel. Does that help?

I will call them on Monday. I am in the largest TV market in the northeast and Cablevision can be seen in my county alone by well over 500,000 viewers (county population almost a million).
