1. Noam Chomsky?
Not a name I expect to see in the same paragraph with Pat Robertson! LOL!

What does he mean by the expansion of Israel? Guess I need to read that thread.

AMY GOODMANfrom democracy now.: To John Kerry, if you were throwing your support –

NOAM CHOMSKY: I don’t talk to John Kerry. I mean, he is not my audience, or your audience, or our audience. We can't make demands on them. Some people can, like Pat Robertson recently said that unless they take an even more extreme position supporting the Israeli expansion, he will set up a third party -- that's a real threat. He could draw tens of millions of evangelical Christians out of the Republican Party. Okay. He could make a demand. So, they’ll say thank you, throw him a little red meat, and then go on doing what they were doing. But we don't have that constituency. We can't make demands. I mean, the demands -- this is meaningless. It's a misunderstanding of the way politics works. We should create a situation in which popular organizations will be able to make demands. Not me, not you. But popular organizations. They’ll be able to make demands and press them. That's what we should be working on. Not pretending we're talking to John Kerry. We're not.

18. Noam must not know about this place...
or the effect we've had on Sinclair, et al.

I realize that some people here might not be as far Left as Noam is, and that he is seen as an "extremist"... however, I do think he knows what he's talking about as far as how the whole corporate-political machine works and what their true motives are.

20. You should dig into what Robertson has been saying for years...
he's an extremist, actually, calling for armeggedon... he's pushing for Israel and the coming "war" and predicts there would be only 40,000 Israeli survivors afterwards, etc., etc. It's really some bizarre shit.

27. look at this wacko !!!!!!!! going nuts...

Pat upholds Jerusalem as the Biblically ordained capital of Israel during The 700 Club, March 15, 1999

Israel is not going to give up Jerusalem. Jerusalem is non-negotiable. I have talked to Netanyahu and, of course, his predecessors in Israel. They are just not going to divide Jerusalem. That is their capital. It was the capital won by King David and they are not about to give it up.

"Yasser Arafat wants the capital in East Jerusalem, and he is not going to get it. He can have Bethlehem; he can have Jericho; he can have Nablus; he can have a number of cities, but he is not going to get Jerusalem.

"If he insists on it, ultimately, there will be war. But that is what the Bible says --That is going to be the place of ultimate conflict. It's going to be over the status of Jerusalem.

I just hope and pray that America comes down on the right side, and the right side is for Israel to continue the land that was given to them by God Almighty.

13. Maybe there's some biblical reference to this?
Pat must think he's suppose to play some pivotal role in bringing on the Rapture?

It pays well in the present, though.

...controls the whole left bank or gaza or whatever that this will bring about the second coming of christ.

They don't give a damn about the Israelis.

23. And a lot of Jews here and in Israel...
... have welcomed him aboard, not realizing the danger of getting involved with him. Imagine their surprise when he made a speech in Jerusalem this month to 4,000 Christian followers, that Jews should welcome Jesus as their messiah.

12. Exactly
There's a reason Robertson is saying what he has said over the last couple of days. He smells the same smell that we do emanating from the Republican Party of today, and he is positioning himself to take over the reins of the fundamentalist wing to form their own party. Excellent news for Democrats and others on the left.

16. Game. Set. Match
If the Fundamentalists had their own party, they would hand the Democrats a whopping majority by splitting the Republican party. And how would the secular Republicans hide their ideology of greed if they can't spend all their time duping religious fanatics that the Republican party is on their side.

We have enough problems as it is.

What did we ever do, o Lord, that You would inflict Pat Robertson on us?

To put it another way, with 'friends' like this, Israel will hardly be hurting for enemies.

22. speaking of pat
i saw an article in todays daily news in which he was quoted as saying that on the eve of the gulf war, shrub said to him that there would be NO US casualties. Pat apparently told him to be realistic and shrub said he was being realistic.

shrub is more out of touch with reality than i though.

here is the same article from the seattle times

24. Chomsky better dream on thinking the left can force ANYTHING on elites
He said in that interview that th left "could" theoretically form pressure groups to force issues on our party leaders.

I just dont see much of an active left sadly.

I see alot of "cultral liberals" (I guess the type that is sort of pro choice , sort of college educated, and sort of none religous) sort of teaming up in a party like fashion to bring down a President they deem as not one of them but I really dont see too much on the issue agenda from this group.Impressive though the mass numbers are and the internet fund raising is quite impressive.

I really dont see a new left , but a sort of elite white left of center internet social movement.

It has its advantages to be sure. For example , we could through high $$$ donations elect a centrist DLC type Tony Knowles in a tough state like Alaska.WE might even get some donations to progressive types every now and then (PLEASE stop donating to that pric Brad Carson however ,UGH!)and that could help us win elections. But even Tony Knowles is a far cry from Mike Gaval.

I just dont see ANY progressive issues coming from this new bunch. I actualy heard somebody on the KOS site brag about how "progressive the Democratic party has become" in supporting a "$7 minninum wage"!!!!

Maybe its just me but todays "liberal movement" seems like little more than partisan D students throwing a party. Might work in ousting Bush.As for other movments of meaningful progress ,Im very skeptical otherwise.
