5 bush/cheney yard signs with a spot light on one with a note
threatening anyone who touches one of the signs in our neighbor's yard. This is one of the most liberal neighborhoods in Florida; we have about 90% turn out on election day. Think this neighbor feels a little outnumbered, insecure,or what?

1. replace them all with K/E signs just to goat him
but leave his signs on the side of his house, because democrats don't destroy other's property. That will piss him off even more because he won't have any "evil democrats" stories.

2. Steal the note, the spotlight, and all but one of the signs.
It's a win-win: he gets to publically support his America-destroying candidate, and we get to call him on his anal-retentiveness.

4. I'd leave them where they are. Anything else is inappropriate, in my
book. They have a right to have the signs up and respected as private property and as a legit political statement.

5. I agree.
Don't legitimize the Republican extremist who are stealing Dem signs by duplicating their crime.

It's not just a crime against an individual. It's a crime against Free Speech, and against Democracy itself.

9. Agree also
Just realized that the original post was seeking observations, not suggestions. (apparently true for some others as well -- partly why I suggested the alternatives.)

If there's been no sign vandalism/thefts in your area, he is just putting his own paranoia on display -- if there has been as to dem's signs, there may be a little projection going on...but I'd still probably not escalate signage just to needle him (might make him truly active to get out the vote or something).

I'm in a red area and have been seeing BC displays that reek of desperation...but not in my immediate vicinity -- very strange, no more signage for BC than I'd expect in a "normal" election. Either they've pissed too many people off, or I am living in such a backwater that the Rs around here don't know what's up.....

10. I thought I was a lonely voice in the wilderness regarding this.
Is this what it's come to?

Again, where's the sadly shaking head icon?

13. Freedom of speech applies to everyone
Even the chronically stupid. If it's the man's yard, he's got the right to keep up his dumbass signs. Of course that doesn't mean your dog can't fertilize them when the neighbor isn't looking.

After all, dogs should be able to voice their opinions as well

16. They're the ones who F With People's Signs, Votes, Speech, Etc.. Not us.

They win when people are afraid, or when they cheat.

We win when people think and speak freely.

7. Suggested this for a sign war, might work here
a blog friend posted that her repug neighbors had plastered their horse fences facing her farm with BC signs in response to her Kerry Edwards signs

I suggested that she put up just one more sign saying "Looking Desperate, Aren't They?" with a big red arrow pointing to all the signs....if they put more up, they just look....more desperate. (If feeling artistic, could do a Bugs Bunny version, with "Pretty Desperate/Paranoid, Ain't They?" - maybe even with Dicky as Elmer, huntin' sign vandals)

Another thought that would work for you since he's surrounded by friendlies - do a take on the BurmaShave signs, depending on the set-up. Theirs: "GWB" Yours: "...is a Great..." "Candidate" "...for IMPEACHMENT!" You get the idea -- would also work for questions leading up to GWB.

Make him look silly enough, those signs will come down...but he might snap, sabotage them himself and claim demonrats in the night...

12. Here's a ltte that my friend just had published..
"We should be able to have differences of opinion"

Editor:

I seriously questioned whether or not to spend my time writing this as it is obvious to me that the person or persons who committed this offense are unlikely to be readers of this or any other newspaper. However, I feel that it is an issue that needs to be addressed. On Saturday afternoon the flag pole on the front of my housse to which I had affixed a Kerry/Edwards yard sign was broken in two and thrown in my front yard.

This is obviously a trespassing violation and vandalism, but it is more serious isssue than that. As a resident of a highly vocal republican-based Dolgeville, I still felt that as a Democrat I had the right to display my own beliefs. Obviously, someone else didn't feel that way.

I especially found this to be ironic as the previous day the school(where I teach in the elementary) hosted a literature fair that discussed RAy Bradbury's "Fahrenheit 451" which shows what can happen when freedom of thought is infringed upon. What makes this country so great is that we do have the freedom to have different opinions and should be able to do so without fear.

As I drive though town, am I thrilled by the plethora of bush/cheney signs and do I claim to understand the reasoning of their supporters? No. However, I do respect their rights to those beliefs and to display their signs. I only ask for the same consideration.

XOXOXOX
XOXOXOX

I love this letter ..it's so heartfelt from someone who experienced a Kerry/Edwards sign that was Vandalized!

There is no link..I copied it from the newspaper that serves our small towns around here in New York.
