Could someone straighten this out & then we all can breathe easier... |
|
I've been trying to get this answered for an hour. We have these several polls hitting tonight that don't put happy faces on people---but some of the data seems like it's the same (like the Iowa numbers). Therefore (and another poster has asked me to ask this because they are confused too): Are Mason-Dixon, Knight-Rider and SurveyUSA all the same poll?? Are there three different names for one poll?? I know that Mason-Dixon has another name and I believe it's one of these two. Sooooooo, are we dealing with fourteen zillion posts all dealing with one poll and calling it by different names. Are we dealing with two polls and one has another name. Or, are we dealing with 3 seperate polls?? Whatever---they stink compared to a list of ones within the last coupl days that all seem to hang around in the same area and who have Kerry doing fine in the Gore states. Could someone clarify?? Thanks.

IIRC NBC and Knightridder fronted the bill for the polls conducted by Mason-Dixon and Survey USA is a polling firm that does work for lots of local newspapers and such.

3. hence MSRNC's shilling for the bogus numbers. Corporate media is |
|
really screwing up free press in America. I hope president Kerry deals with this very real problem.

2. Knight-Ridder Mason-Dixon |
|
One of the polls I saw had both of these names on it together, on MSNBC. Otherwise, I don't know. It had Oregon tied, totally impossible, so I don't trust anything they did.

the SJ Mercury News (a Knight-Ridder paper) had a huge headline today: "Bush Ahead in 7 Key States". I about gagged.

4. i dont have your answer, but i dont believe all the polls |
|
for or against kerry. i also heard from a handful of people the closer we get to the election the harder it is for the polls to be representitive of what is actually happening. we have gone way overboard on the significance of the polls

10. I followed Mason-Dixon in 2000 and found their results to be awful |
|
They weren't even close in most cases. That's what bugs me. Why do the networks and media hire polling companies that don't have a record for accuracy? Because they are cheaper?
BTW, Rasmussen and SUSA do their polls with recorded questions while some others use live people. The results often vary because they use different proportions for party representation in each sample and some polls count "leaners" and some don't. Also, their definition of what is a "likely voter" may be different from polling firm to polling firm.

11. Survey USA has been skewed in the past. Forget polls. Keep working, GOtV |
|
Forget the polls, whether they are negative, positive, or split.
Keep up the effort and Get Out the Vote (GOtV).
