Fuggedibout the polls DUrs! GOTV is where it's at now! Post ideas!

You can't do a damn frickin' thing about the polls, especially at this late date, except wring your hands. What is the point of that!!

Bush is ahead by a point, it's tied, Kerry is ahead by a point, blah, blah, blah. You are making yourselves crazy and worse yet you are expending energy that could be used to get Senators Kerry and Edwards elected!

1. You can write a letter to the editor (pro-Kerry or anti-Bush)
2. Think of just one friend or family member a day that you can educate and maybe sway
3. Put another bumper sticker on your car, put up a lawn sign, get extra signs for neighbors (you'll be surprised how many want one but are too lazy to find one themselves)
4. Join a phone bank. You can do this online even, make as many or as few calls as you want or have time for.
5. Get in touch with one of the many GOTV organizations (ACT, MoveOn, DNC, etc.), they have lots of stuff that needs done.
6. ... you get the idea.

Post more ideas and links in this thread

Or you can sit there and fret....

Kerry On,

- K

By this weekend it will be locked in stone. But as with any close election turnout will be everything.

Call a local Dem official or a county Dem if you don't have one locally. I think that is the best way to go rather than trying to email the DNC or the Kerry campaign directly.

Locally you can man phones, drive people to the polls, be a poll watcher to mark off the list of Dems who have voted by a certain time on election day and then turn the sheets over to callers who will let the Dems who haven't voted yet know that you (the Dems) KNOW they haven't voted and need their support. You'd be surprised how many people will run out to vote if they know you are aware of it. Been there - done it.

3. GOTV
That's it. Just get people to the polls. Make sure everybody you registered to vote, actually votes. That's the most important thing.

4. Get white shoe polish and
write on your car back window: "VOTE EARLY" if you do Early Voting in your state. Include your county elections website address.

Or do the same on Election day.

5. .
Good post. Regardless of the polls it is very likely to be close and Getting Out the Vote (GOTV) is important. Even if the polls swing in Kerry's favor or if your assessment is Kerry is favored, don't let up the effort.

6. Stand on a street corner on election day (after voting) with a sign urging people to vote. I don't think you can be partisan, but in the right places it would have a positive swing. Find out where concentrations of new voters have registered.

7. Email friends and acquaintances.

8. Wear a sticker on election day saying you voted and urging others.

9. Volunteer to drive poll workers and observers and lawyers and most especially to drive voters to the polls.

10. Knock on doors the day and evening before, and even on the day, especially if you can volunteer to drive.

11. If hospitals and nursing homes have polls, volunteer to help residents there.

12. Phone in to talk shows.

Go Kerry!

13. Post on forums in the days leading up and on the day.

7. Check with your local Democratic headquarters.
My wife and I are taking the 3 days leading up to and election day off to work. Here it will be a 4 day push. We will leave no voters behind.

8. Good for all of you, great ideas!! I'm travelling from OR to OH
to work the final 4 days, taking vacation time. It's a first GOTV for me, but I am so fired up this cycle, I just have to DO something positive. If we take OH it's going to be one of life's peak experiences, if not... too depressing to think about, ... but at least I'll have done my best.

Kerry On!
