Turnout, Turnout, Turnout
The key to a Kerry victory. Let's do our best to make sure Registered Voters become "Likely" Voters. The polls depend on the Dems not getting the turnout.

We need to maximize the turnout!

1. Yep. In most places, there's little we can do about registering voters.
They mean nothing unless they go to the polls.

5. In 2000, 18 million people were registered in time but didn't make it to
the polls. Unlike Australia and other places much closer to true democracy, the US makes Election Day is a weekday rather than a weekend or holiday. Thus "soft" registrations may not result in actual votes, despite the best efforts of GOTV volunteers. "Easy come, easy go."

This 18 million is the main target for at least Wall Street's early vote effort:

A site in a Republican early-voting web of links has this research tidbit, at http://bipac.org/detail.asp?id=1298

"Census Bureau figures show that ONLY 12.2% OF REGISTERED VOTERS WHO DIDN'T GO TO THE POLLS IN 2000 SAY THEY HAD NO INTEREST. THAT LEAVES 88.8% OF REGISTERED NON-VOTERS -- MORE THAN 16 MILLION PEOPLE -- who might overcome the 'too inconvenient' or 'I forgot' barriers if an early voting option is easily available."

It's actually more or less easy to vote early in EVERY battleground state. See http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=106x11538

2. Turnout here in central NM is already heavy
with a record 8000 voting in this town on the first day, with the polls not set to close for another 3 hours. There have been lines every day, and I heard a lot of bitching about Bush when I went on Tuesday.

This is not good news for the Bush gang. All they're doing now is escalating the vileness of their ads in hopes of dissuading the procrastinators from bothering on November 2.

I don't think it's going to work.

3. South County community center has had over 6,000 voters...
...through today. Can you guess who they're voting for?

6. I worked the 2000 election and the 2002 mid terms. This effort is by
far the best. Head and shoulders above any of the previous years and far far more volunteers. The 2000 election was somewhat disorganized.
This is a real machine. We WILL turn out the vote.
