Well this is making the rounds over in freepville right now. There's a huge thread about it, the freepers are up in arms.

Laura Ingraham just had a caller on her show from Colorado who said the local news is reporting people in the Fort Carson area in Colorado are receiving phone calls purportedly from the Kerry campaign with the worst sort of scare tactic.

The woman said the phone call begins with an ID saying the call is from the Kerry campaign. Next, the voice says, "Your son has been killed in Iraq." After a pause, the voice says that if President Bush is re-elected more families will be getting these calls.

Laura asked listeners out there try to get a recording of the phone call from the local news.

Remember how Rove bugged his own office? Remember how he had outrageous and scandalous fliers printed up and passed out that were ostensibly put out by his opponent? There is an Atlantic Monthly article out now that delves into these Rove dirty tricks.

I have read that a number of family members have been called on the phone by the actual unit commander very soon after there family member has been killed. They have incredible comm gear over there now and it is very personalized this way to hear it from someone who knows exactly what happened.

I work for local law enforcement and can pass along any suspicious internet messages to the proper law enforcement authorities in that state, county, city, wherever. It takes me about 2 minutes to locate the address, and pass along the info and website as-

"No action requested - for your information only"

Should I zap it there way? Won't do it if it's not proper protocol. I do know that the officials in CO would appreciate having the info and source, but if I should just let it slide.. I will.

This is an old tactic from the Nixon days.

Nixon's CREEP (Committee to Re-elect the President) did this a lot. They wanted McGovern to be the Democratic candidate, because they viewed McGovern as the easiest to defeat. (I believe Rove was on that team.) So they sabotaged the Muskie campaign. Included in their tricks was:

Calling people at 4 in the morning claiming to be from the "Muskie for President" campaign, and saying really atrocious things.

Putting out bumper stickers in Alabama reading "You liked Hitler? You'll LOVE Wallace -- vote for Muskie in 72".

Yes -- the Kerry Organizers need to get on this RIGHT NOW and stop it and expose it if it is happening. My advice: Run full page ads or put out to the mass media in some other form this message -- that people receiving objectionable phone calls from people claiming to be from the Kerry Campaign need to contact the REAL Kerry Campaign immediately, so we can put a stop to this. EXPOSE IT immediately for what it is.

It did tremendous damage to Muskie in 1972. Don't let it damage us.
