My Letter to My Local Sinclair Station
To Whom it May Concern:

I am a lifelong resident of Nashville, and as such, I have watched and enjoyed your station's programs for many years.

After this day, I will never watch your channel again. Neither will I support any of your advertisers -- and I intend on letting them know this.

Your airing of Sinclair Broadcasting's blatant political propaganda program breaks any bonds of loyalty I may have had for your channel. ANYONE with access to a computer and the many sources of news and information available knows that this program is biased and full of lies. Sinclair's so-called "changes" in this program (as a result of nationwide condemnation) are purely cosmetic.

I wonder how many viewers know that the producer, Carlton Sherwood, in 1984 was responsible for a documentary about the Vietnam Veterans Memorial wherein he claimed that contributions were being misused -- this claim was later proven false and his station subsequently paid a financial settlement to avoid a lawsuit. Or that he worked for the Washington Times -- a paper owned by the radically conservative self-proclaimed messiah Reverend Sun Myung Moon.

I wonder how many of your conservative viewers know that David Smith, the owner & CEO of Sinclair, was arrested with a prostitute in 1996. And that there is some speculation that Smith is airing the program to get Bush re-elected NOT out of some patriotic fervor, but because his company is in trouble, and the only way to keep his head above water is to get the broadcasting regulations relaxed further than they are today.

I wonder if you or your viewers are aware that your bully-boy commentator Mark Hyman was once an employee of the CIA?

I wonder if you know that the bureau chief of your sister station in DC was fired after he refused to play this dirty game and commented to the media about it?

I wonder why your station doesn't have the guts to do the same.

I know one reason why this country is in the mess it's in -- it's because of cowardly journalists and broadcasters like you, so cowed by the "you're either with us or with the terrorists" mentality of Washington that you've forgotten everything they ever taught you about the responsibilities of journalism.

They say that if you don't like somebody's programming, turn it off. Good advice. I intend to.

1. What did Timothy Leary say?
Tune out? Drop in? Unplug?

Nice letter, by the way. Very nice indeed.
