Our paper endorses Bush because Kerry is " circumspect" and
because Carter had high interest rates.

It makes me sick. They also say that Bush was wrong on the war, but it is not an election issue.

I refuse to link directly to the editorial.

The paper is
www.theledger.com

I thought I had heard all kinds of reasons for endorsements, but this is just so sad and pathetic.

5. Do they know what circumspect means?
Definition: \Cir"cum*spect\, a. circumspicere to look about one's self, to observe; circum +
spicere, specere, to look. See {Spy}.]
Attentive to all the circumstances of a case or the probable
consequences of an action; cautious; prudent; wary.

Sounds like a good thing to me.

9. You are right. They say Kerry's analyzing is confusing.
SNIP..."In contrast, John Kerry is circumspect. His approach of analyzing a problem in microscopic detail, and commenting upon it from one angle, then another and yet others, over an extended period, produces confusion...."

16. At least they didn't accuse Kerry of liking homo sapiens
...or of having practiced celibacy before marriage or of having a sister who's a thespian. (Ref: the George Smathers/Claude Pepper campaign -- see http://www.mendosa.com/politics.html for the complete speech...)

12. Apparently no one of draft age works for the paper
And nobody has any kids at least 13 years old.

Shameful. And I'd say much worse if I wasn't being circumspect.

11. the iraq war not an election issue?
they must buy lots of cheap oil.
they must not have children or other family in the army in iraq.
they must be pro-choice as long as life is in the womb.
they must care not about innocent iraqis being massacred.
they must care not about soldiers dying for the invasion and occupation of a country based on lies and greed for oil.
they must be followers of jerry falwell, pat robertson, paul crouch and benny hinn (or is it hill?) the pastor with the healing ministry.
they must be wearing blinders.
they must be bush shills.

13. Has to do with taxes.
SNIP.."Do Bush's errors on Iraq and his divisive domestic policy matter? Yes, greatly.

Are they pertinent? No, not for this election.

The reason: President Bush has a single-minded focus on seeing freedom defeat terrorism. To support this difficult-but-vital task, Bush is determined that the people and businesses of our nation be sufficiently free from taxation and regulation. And he will see Iraq through to democracy and subsequent peace...."

14. Bush "will see Iraq through to democracy and . . . peace"
I will bet the editors of The Ledger anything they'd care to name either (1) that Bush will not be reinstalled in the White House; or (2) if he is, that he will most certainly NOT see Iraq through to democracy and subsequent peace.

Asshats.

19. LOL Yeh, I feel your pain.
These days, circumspect is no longer a compliment, I fear. This is what our country has come to represent....a man who is thoughtful does not qualify to be president.

22. bread and circles
But Bush saved some barbs for his son - and in particular his famed malapropisms.

"He wrote a paper when he was in fifth grade in which he said in 1519 Ferdinand Magellan circumcised the world," Bush said.

23. I'm not terribly surprised...
Polk County tends to be red country anyway. Over here in Pinellas, we tend to go blue, but the center portions of the state are Repub.

As far as their reasoning - what else could they possibly say?? LOL Sounds like they were desperate to find SOMETHING to justify their position...

25. I remember when they endorsed Jeb, a reporter let something slip.
I was so furious at their unintelligent pandering endorsement of Jeb in 2002. I wrote a couple of the reporters, the gist of my letter being that every reason they put forth to vote for Jeb....was my reason to vote against him.

One told me to resend it as a letter, and they would print it. The reporter reminded me that the editor's endorsement was often quite different than the majority opinion of the reporters and staff.

Well, in this case, I would most certainly hope the reporters who work hard every day would be insulted by the editor's idiotic endorsement.
