Take the pledge. Polls (like debate "style") are a distraction from issues |
|
In America, the overwhelming majority
1. does not want to limit reproductive rights without exceptions for the mother's health built in -- Kerry agrees, Bush doesn't
2. does not want to see people discriminated against based on their sexual orientation -- Kerry agrees, Bush doesn't
3. does not want the US to go it alone in international relations or the efforts to curb terrorism but would rather see us work as a leader of the world community -- Kerry agrees, Bush doesn't
4. does not want social security, Medicare, the veterans administration cut -- Kerry agrees, Bush doesn't
5. does not want the environmental protections in place eroded -- Kerry agrees, Bush doesn't
The list is endless.
So, if you don't want to publicize the difference between the candidates on the issues which will not behoove your candidate, but you are obligated to report on the presidential race or you will lose viewership, what do you do? You report on the "horse race" and you report on "style" without addressing substance. Don't buy into that nonsense. Polls have their place (mainly, they are helpful for campaign administration), but they have only limited utility.
Take the pledge. Look at the polls if you must (I cannot help myself sometimes), but pledge that for every 15 minutes you spend checking the polls:
1. you will drive a friend, family member, colleague, or neighbor to their polling place,
2. you will donate at least that amount of time to a GOTV phone bank, or
3. you will give $15 to ACT or MoveOn or some other progressive GOTV effort.
Channel your energy.

1. As Michael Moore says, polls are all over the map like diarrhea. |
