Campaign issue hits home: my 2-year old refused flu shot today
we had the appointment since Monday, but when we showed up at the pediatricians this morning, they apologized saying, "I'm sorry, we'll have to send you home". They said that as of THIS MORNING the federal government ordered that flu shots must NOT be given to children older than 23 months! Had we shown up yesterday, my daughter would have gotten it. I tired to work my charm on the doctor, but he said that if the government finds out, the fine is $40,000. Ouch.

I write about this here because I know how I felt at that moment: fury and disgust. I already hate this administration; I don't need further persuasion. But I can just imagine how the many parents whose children are being turned away will feel, who they will blame, and what it will mean for Nov. 2.

Note to parents of young kids:

I asked the doctor what ELSE I might do to protect my daughter from the flu and he suggested that I take (inhale) the Flu Mist. I asked him how that can help her and he said that direct exposure during the 7 days following my taking the Flu Mist will also give her immunity- as I will be breathing near her, and having close physical contact. It didn't make sense though he tried to explain it (he is not a quack- his practice is state-of-the-art)- so I took a dose of Flu Mist there. That solved one problem, because i have no one to care for my child if I get sick.

4. as I posted above YOU get the mist, if you can
the doctor said my immunity would protect my child- I don't know HOW, but I took it. I also have no one to care for my child if i am sick, so at least now I am protected. Try to get the mist, if you can. It cost me $50- our finances are very tight, but it would be more devastating if I got sick.

I wish you and your family the best.

I'm trying tofind another site i had linked here a few days ago, regarding possible links between ADD/ADHD/Hyperactivity and vaccines....

i'll find you any links i can get.

imo, many vaccinations for the most part are a racket, with lots of unforseen consequences.

here's another link from them, geared specifically towards children:

6. finally.....
Edited on Fri Oct-22-04 01:32 PM by MsTryska
here's the link i was thinking of...

i should keep this one bookmarked since so many people are wigging out over this flu thing...

http://www.whale.to/vaccine/flu2.html

check all the links when you have time, but here is my favorite:

"To summarize thus far:

The flu kills fewer than 1,000 people on average, not 36,000

Flu Vaccine is of highly dubious effectiveness

The CDC and Vaccine Manufacturers are in closed door sessions with
the primary stated purpose of boosting vaccination numbers by spreading fear

At this point, some may think, "Hey, it might be worth getting, just as a preventative measure. Sort of like throwing a little salt over your shoulder, what can it hurt?" Plenty. The good Dr. Donald Miller, cardiac surgeon and Professor of Surgery at the University of Washington in Seattle, recently did an article about the dangers of mercury in vaccines and amalgam fillings. The CDC has a position on Thimerosal (methyl mercury based preservative) in flu vaccines posted to its website. Without admitting that Thimerosal might be responsible for the epidemics of autism, alzheimers, and ADD in this country, the CDC gives us a sop about taking it out or removing it. Reading the fine print, however, tells us: "the majority of influenza vaccines distributed in the United States currently contain Thimerosal as a preservative." Furthermore, in a bit of regulatory trickery, the FDA is letting smaller amounts go undisclosed : "..some contain only trace amounts of Thimerosal and are considered by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to be preservative-free." In other words, even if you ask to see the vaccine label, check for Thimerosal, and get a warm fuzzy feeling about the shot being labeled "Thimerosal free," thanks to the FDA's accommodation of drug manufacturers, it could still contain mercury.

When the major manufacturers of flu vaccine get together with the CDC in a closed door summit with the sole purpose of figuring out how to stick 185 million doses of a questionable vaccine into a population in which less than 1,000 people a year die, what should we call it? Yes, Virginia, it is a conspiracy. Luckily the conspirators are foolish enough to believe that their website is safely hidden amidst all the chaff of the Internet, or else, are so brazen in their contempt for the general population that they think we can't do a little math and conclude "The vaccine doesn't work, and the flu is a flim-flam!"

7. thanks for all your research
your post is interesting. I'll never know whether or not my flu shots have worked or I din't get sick because I was not exposed, but I've been getting them for years and haven'nt had the flu since. So, even if it's a placebo, it gives me a little peace of mind. Especially with a VERY active 2 year-old, i can't imagine what I would do if I were sick, and worrying about getting sick is ANOTHER kind of sickness! As far as my daughter goes, I am worried about geting a high fever and pneumonia.

I'll check out your article.

9. Please do....
on the flip-side of you, I've never gotten a flu vaccine, (back in the 90s when they became prevalent, especially in the ghettos of America, i was concerned with them being bio-experimentation), and i haven't had the flu since the 4th grade. (i'm 32 now).

I definitely understand your fears, but please understand a flu vaccination doesn't mean your child is immunized against the flu and witht he problems with mercury-based preservatives, and their ties to various brain dysfunctions, as well as diabetes, i would keep from panicking. imo, this shortage is not as scary as the media is making it seem.

13. I'm not sure where the website is based
but the webmaster is based in the UK.

The articles are pretty good, imo, and verifiable as well.

there are plenty of others, but this is an excellent collection or articles and studies.

8. and yet many of the chicago bears got their shots
CHICAGO - Some members of the Chicago Bears (news) received flu shots despite a nationwide shortage of the vaccine. The shots were offered to everyone on the team, but Bears officials said fewer than half of the roughly 60 members received vaccinations, mainly those with "asthma-type conditions." Remaining doses were returned to the distributor.

A local health official described the vaccinations as "regretful," saying he doubted anyone on the team was in a high-risk category.

"I'd like to know why an athlete in top shape is being given a flu shot," said Dale Galassie, executive director of the health department in Lake County, north of Chicago, where the team trains....

12. I will tell those people who say there is plenty
about your story.

I keep hearing the media say that there are enough vaccines. The Repubs I know who don't need shots just figure it's true. But then people like you and I go to our doctors and see the notices saying "Our order of flu vaccine was cancelled. Sorry for the inconvenience" or "Sorry, no children over 23 months" or somesuch.

And then my workplace pays for people to get shots for free. We are for the most part, not high risk folk. What the hell. Why would we rate? Why would a sport team rate? And seniors and kids are left wanting. That just ain't right.
