Buried Planes
Does anyone have any further information on the rumor that buried planes were found in Iraq? I need to know.

2. They buried some things in the 1991 war
I remember reports that they buried some tanks during the 1991 war to keep them from being bombed. When the invasion started, they brought out the tanks.

Of course, tanks are supposed to be regularly maintained, not buried in sand. So they had some problems.

I never heard anything about planes being buried. I know that several fled to Iran, where they stayed for the rest of the war.

3. Old news
Some migs were found buried north of Baghdad a long time ago. Saddam lost a large portion of his air force when he sent it to Iran in Gulf War I and in this war, he burried some planes to keep them from being destroyed.

To my knowledge, the planes would not be usuable after being buried.

4. It's not a rumor...
... but it's not "new" news, either (the find occurred fifteen months ago). Nor are those planes considered WMDs. Nor were they in a very good state of repair.

The original story was picked up by both BBC and Reuters, I believe. Check their archives.

Cheers.

6. This was picked up and is hailed by freepers as justification
for the Iraq occupation, along with the coffee can buried under the rose bush.

7. I saw an email being circulated by wingnuts
several weeks ago about MIGs being buried over there. This was supposed to justify chimpy's claim of WMD's over there and how this was hidden by the Liberal News Media. Then they went on to pray about how they could find a way to shut up chimpy's critics and the usual hate-mongering. It's been out there awhile. Probably more emails circulating about all kinds of stuff.

8. I gotta ask ...
How do US forces, surrounded by ALL THAT SAND, know where to dig ?

Or are they just happening across these planes while helping Halliburton - uh, I mean the reconstruction contractors - lay pipeline - uh, I mean rebuild Iraq ...

:wtf:

9. WTF we knew they were buried 13 years ago, and WTF he was allowed
to have an air force. That is why we had the no fly zones.
