Ohio's most coveted newspaper endorsements less than 48 hours away
Edited on Fri Oct-22-04 01:44 PM by mtnester
This Sunday, you will see the Cincy Enquirer, Cleveland Plain Dealer, and most coveted of all, the Columbus Dispatch, list the presidential candidate endorsements. An interesting article summing it up can be found at: http://www.editorandpublisher.com/eandp/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1000681331

Specific to the Columbus Dispatch - This link specifically states:

"Dispatch endorsements will be posted here as they are made"

Which seems to me that you can see this endorsement in the wee hours Sunday morning. The link is:

go to http://www.dispatch.com/election/election-local.php?story=dispatch/election/endorse1104/endorse.html

It is important to note that most of their (Dispatch) editorials (in house) have been critical of Bush. Should you care to send a letter (I would assume this is the last day to do so before the endorsement), read the above article first and use their own discussion of their own negative Bush articles to help Mr. Wolfe decide that Kerry is the man they want to see in office. Perhaps take a stroll through the actual newspaper archives. Please do not send denigrating letters, as I do not think this would be helpful in the thought process.

I know some of you do not think that newspaper endorsements matter, but I think they carry some weight with the average apolitical. I have know people that state they decide who to vote for when the newspapers let them know. Now, it is not my fault this is how they are, so don't squawk at me about that, but you all KNOW there are many people like that out there.

Any help you all can give, please do so. We are working our ASSES off in Ohio to go blue.

1. Actually, people in Ohio do still read the newspaper.
Wonder if the Dayton Daily News endorsement will carry any water with the Dispatch or Plain-Dealer editorial staffs and publishers? Not that it's a big surprise that DDN endorsed Kerry, I guess -- Cox, the founder of the publishing chain, was a Democrat who served as (I believe) a congressman in Ohio early in the century. They've done some of the better political reporting I've seen in a daily newspaper, this year -- fair to everybody, which is reflected in the number of gripey editorial letters from Goopers on the Opinion page every day!

If the Enquirer endorses Kerry, I'll eat my hat. They're the Fox Newspaper of Ohio. The Post probably will endorse the other candidate, which is to say Kerry. The Post likes to pretend to present an alternate viewpoint.
