Answer to wolf ad: Kerry ad comparing * to an ostrich

turkey would have been the PERFECT analogy to Bush. Whoever put this ad together doesn't know squat about birds.

(I wouldn't either--except that I have a friend with a phd in animal behavior who specialized in birds--funny--I hadn't talked to her in years--but birds came up last night (the geese) and I had a long talk with her). She told me about ostiches years ago (when I was a child in grade school I was very shy and once had a teacher compare me to an ostrich with its head in the sand).

But a terrible analogy if people know about birds.

I want to say one word in defense of the ostrich--people seem to have a meme that ostriches "put their heads down in the sand to avoid what is going on" but really they put their nests down in the sand--so they are putting their heads down there to check on their eggs.

So the average person just doesn't know what the ostriches are doing when they see them with their heads down in the sand. An ostrich with its head in the sand is taking care of its family and its nest.

I think it was a poor analogy to use--hopefully most people won't know why an ostrich puts its head down in the sand.

I doubt many people know that. I found it very interesting. I just thought the head in the sand thing was a total myth...not a misinterpretted truth.

It's a metaphor, and people think in metaphor.

Bush's whole schitick is "I will keep you safe--I will protect you".

Just like an ostrich with its head in the sand--it is protecting its nest and taking care of its young. The ostrich is using her own body to protect her nest (which is very vulnerable being down on the ground).

It is an image that is flattering to Bush if people know about the ostrich. I would have picked an image that is ONLY unflattering--not something with the potential to show him in the very light that he wants to be seen in.

I wish I was running this damn campaign.

Personally, I admite the ostrich! Hopefully most people are not like me--because I don't think it is insulting--but flattering to be like an ostrich.

I would have choosen something much more demeaning to compare Bush to! But as long as the freepers are insulted--then I guess that our job is done!
