2. Remind everyone you talk to
that the attack on the World Trade Center mentioned in that ad is NOT 9/11, it is the first one back in 1993. And many, many Repubs after that time also voted to cut intelligence funding. Including a lot of Bush appointees.

The RNC is counting on people missing the word 'first' or not even thinking about it at all and only connecting the WTC with 9/11.

3. The Gingrich Congress Cut Intelligence Funding Even more than Kerry
..proposed.

Plus, $6 billion "guts" intelligence funding? 6 billion is a drop in the bucket when it comes to intelligence. It amounts to less than 1% of the intelligence budget.

What a WEAK ad. Damn. Why even bother with it, it's no worse or better than all the other crap the GOP spews out?

"So I don't worry about, and people shouldn't
worry about a draft. . . I think we're in good
shape, I really do. And, if not, we'll -- I'll address
the nation
. But I don't see any need to right now."

19. I LOVE IT. Speaking of eagles...
Is anybody else pissed off about the coal industry's eagle commercial, that shows a choking eagle from 30 years ago, then a happy eagle flying around in clear skies today?

The coal industry has fought EPA clean air standards tooth and nail every step of the way, and now they have the nerve to run that commercial? What a bunch of condescending, arrogant fucks.

22. as I told an "undecided" at work
the choice is this -- fear or hope

"do you want to go along for the next four years being afraid, or do you want to see something hopeful being done

just look at the campaign commercials, the video clips on the news -- all bush* is offering is 4 more years of fear, he has no record to run on so he's trying to scare people into voting for him

he has no plans for the next 4 years that people will buy, his plans are to continue scaring people and to make rosey statements like "we're makin' progress" --- yeah? well what freaking progress?
gas is up, heating oil is up, my paycheck is down, we have a freaking war that is a mess --- the smirk-boy not only doesn't have any clothes - he also doesn't have a clue

his whole administration can be summed up as PRAY AS YOU GO -- that's where you pray like crazy that he doesn't f**k-up any worse than he already has

that's your choice"

then I handed him the printouts from Kerry site on Kerry's plans and told him to read it

Beautiful job. Emperor has no clothes. Emperor has no clue!

Sadly, bush would probably be just fine with "pray as you go," considering how much effort he's put into dismantling the wall that keeps church and state separated.

29. cuts between an eagle soaring and an ostrich
with it's head in the sand. Voiceover says things like

"as the eagle soars in the sky it can see what's happening. the ostrich, with his head in the ground sees nothing"
"the eagle can change direction when needed...the ostrich just stands still"

mild humor, pretty low-key

finishes with something like

"wouldn't you rather America was like the eagle in these times" or something
then text "America Can Do Better"

if i had a faster connection i'd have watched it again for more accurate quotes.

I just showed this to my wife, and she was like "Who made this? This is great!" (Windows Media Player was parked in front of the DNC's web page as she asked this.) I said "The DNC" and she looked at me blankly. "The Democratic National Committee," I spelled out. "You know, the Democratic Party. AKA the Pink Tutu guys." (She is a big BartCop fan.)

Long pause.

"YOU MEAN THAT'S ACTUALLY GONNA BE ON TV???????!!!!!??!!!"

Plus it's more respectful of our naional mascot than the stupid song sung by John Ashcroff "Let the Eagle Soar" or something like that.

Kind of a side note but the return of the Bald Eagle is one of the great success stories in enviromentalism. I live near a lake and have seen several eagles clsoe to home.

Also, if you watch the Fuzzy Wolf ad then immediately watch the Eagle/Ostrich ad, it's striking.

Great move with the eagle and ostrich, though a part of me really wanted the Dems to counter with an ad showing a bunch of chimps hopping up and down scratching themselves and throwing feces.

48. I am sure
All the students of advertising out there are shaking their heads at the "Wolves" ad. The Republicans forgot to characterize themselves... so we're left to think they're what... the trees? Or the intrepid cameraman, who followed the wolves so diligently and then ended up getting eaten?

Neither very reassuring - good thing those wolves are so cute and playful.

57. I think DNC could do a part 2 with the eagle and ostrich.
Eagle flying around like in first commercial. Ostrich finally pulls head out from hole in sand. Ostrich is wearing rose colored glasses. Somehow he flings them off for a moment. Just then, eagle flies overhead, with a small banner in it's beak.
Banner has the words "The Truth" on it.
Ostrich screams, puts rose colored glasses back on and hurriedly runs back to hole and inserts head.

Fade out to words on the screen "Kerry/Edwards 2004"

Hey, it's late, I should be in bed. Can't you tell?
But I got this darned image of the ostrich with rose colored glasses on and I couldn't let it go. LOL. :)

61. I hate to spoil the love-in, but the 'Eagle' ad is weak
The GOP "Wolves' ad names names and assigns blame. If you didn't know the "Eagle" ad was being put out by the DNC (and outside of folks like us who really does?) you wouldn't know what that bird was going on about about. It could as easily be a GOP ad as a Democratic one.

The barbarians are at the gate, and what we need now are clubs and boiling tar, not metaphors.

62. I halfway agree
A better response ad would be to also use wolves.

Do something for the young, hip-hop-loving voter:
"Who let the wolves in (woof... woof woof woof woof woof)?" *

And show a pack of wolves running down a NYC street or through a border crossing.

* Sung to "Who Let the Dogs Out?"
