DETROIT (AP) -- A new poll of likely Michigan voters published Thursday showed 47 percent supporting President Bush and 43 percent backing U.S. Sen. John Kerry.

The telephone poll of 400 people conducted Monday and Tuesday for The Detroit News by Mitchell Research & Communications Inc. of East Lansing found 1 percent supporting independent Ralph Nader, 2 percent backing other candidates and 7 percent unsure or refusing to say.

The 4 percentage point difference between the support for Bush and Kerry is within the poll's 5-point margin of sampling error.

An Oct. 11-13 poll of 600 likely Michigan voters found 48 percent backing Democrat Kerry and 43 percent backing Republican Bush. The poll, conducted for The South Bend (Ind.) Tribune and WSBT-TV, had a 4 percentage point margin of error.

of showing this.

By the way have you noticed all the new polls giving Kerry the lead in Ohio? Two of them with by six points.

Mitchell Research & Communications is a Republican firm in that has a very poor record with accuracy in political polling.

15. "Likely voters"
But no mention of their cirteria for that categorization. As we've learned here, that can make all the difference.

And that 5% MOE is extrodinarily large. Sounds like an amatuerish attempt to me. I hope the DFP didn't pay a lot for this one.

is actually the better of the two papers. They endorsed KErry as well, weeks ago.

I think this poll was done with Mitchell and Detroit News, which is the state's RW paper...the worthless rag will probly endorse monkey boy.

A poll of 400 voters in a state of 15 million is accurate. Michigan will go to Kerry. Pennsylvania will go to Kerry, and Bush is worried about Ohio...
