I just early voted here in Fort Worth, TX
Edited on Fri Oct-22-04 03:19 PM by Paul_H
Had to stand in line 15-20 min. Got a chance to discuss issues (in a very general sense) with an elderly couple in front of me in line. He was a retired 20-year military veteran. He complained about what a mess Bush had made of Iraq.

After we got out, I asked him how he voted and he replied: Straight ticket- Republican. I mentioned that I voted a mixed ticket, with Kerry at the top. He replied, "You're just like my wife." So, in my very informal sample of three I have Kerry leading 2-to-1 in Texas.

I'm sure Texas goes to Bush, but it may be closer than most expect.

When I grabbed lunch a Wattaburger afterward, the girl at the counter saw my "I VOTED!" sticker and asked who I voted for. When I told her Kerry, she gave me a thumbs up and a big smile.

3. SW Subcourthouse on Granbury Rd.
They said they are getting 1500/day voting at that site. I think there are 3 or 4 other early voting sites.... doing some math here... that makes about 60,000 voting early in Ft. Worth alone. Quite a few, if you ask me.

7. There was a bout a 20 minute wait, and the people working the
polls said that is typical. If you go today, take an umbrella, cuz the rain is starting and the line was out the door.

They have several dozen voting terminals set up in there.

2. Bush is a screwup but he voted straight GOP?
Good lord, it's sad when age doesn't confer wisdom.

5. I suspect he was one of those who was pushed on by his wife,
but just couldn't bring himself to vote for one of them liberals. There have been a lot of negative claims made against Kerry, many of them seem to be just BS, but for those who cling to their conservative political affiliation, it's enough to keep them in the fold.

6. That retired military guy sounds nuts
I swear I don't get why these people would bitch about Bush but still want him in...

At least he's not deluding himself into believing evreything is goin fine.

It sounds like people are really excited about voting this year though!

11. He was far from nuts.
He was a very nice, polite gentleman. Even when he found out I voted Kerry, he didn't react strongly to my voting for Kerry.

At least he's not deluding himself into believing evreything is goin fine.

That is a big step for people here in Texas.

Until 1972, Cowtown used to be 70-80% Dems!

I blame carpetbaggin' Poppy Bush and his pals.

10. I'm in Fort Worth and will not vote
early because I don't trust those dang touchscreens without paper verification. I prefer the connect the arrows optical scans that will be available on election day.

Two politically active and in the know Republicans told me today that it wasn't looking good for Bush. Really??????
