On Barbara Bush's resemblance to the Quaker Oat man.
Recent posts on DU about Babs brought back memories of a radio show from Gary Burbank on WLW-Cincinnati.

When HW Bush was president, Burbank called the Quaker Oat Company, using the character of Gilbert Gnarley. Gilbert commended the company for putting the picture of the first lady on their cereal labels. Then, Gilbert offered some suggestions. Have Barbara wear a string of pearls and a Republican elephant lapel pin. And lose the hat! That hat didn't do much for her. At that point the Quaker employee was confused and put Gilbert on hold to talk to her boss. She came back and explained that the person on the cereal boxes is not Barbara Bush, but the Quaker man that they've had on their labels for years.

Gilbert then confessed that he didn't know that because he usually doesn't buy their products. For breakfast, he usually eats Cream of Wheat. "That's the one with the picture of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas."

At that point, I pulled off the side of the road because I was laughing so hard.

A classic!

2. That's hysterical!
I wish someone on radio would do that again. There's bound to be some newbies manning the consumer lines at QO.
