NEW MEME: THE "WOLVES" AD MAY HAVE COST BUSH THE ELECTION.
Edited on Fri Oct-22-04 03:59 PM by MallRat
The wolves are cute and kinda cuddly.

The ad was an attempt to stir up fear among the voting public.

Instead, it became a 30-second display of how flailing and desperate the Bush campaign really is.

I don't think the Republicans intended for people to LAUGH at this commercial.

SPREAD THE WORD: THE "WOLVES" AD MAY HAVE COST BUSH THE ELECTION.

25. Yeah but cry wolf means exactly that
The critique is that they've gratuitously used warnings as a political ploy, so people stop believing them even if there's a real one. Meaning it's they who have reduced the effectiveness of warning against a real one, by being slimeballs and using it as a tool to win votes.

33. no, we would be the ones talking about "crying wolf"
when the hypothetical terrorist attack would come. Therefore we would look like people not taking things seriously.

Just laying out possible Rovian shit. The lie, of course, is the notion that Kerry doesn't take these problems seriously. And the exclamation point to the lie is sleaziness of the whole operation - they would have to make the attack happen, and there is no lamer way to infulence democracy than that.

not the terrorists possibly attacking us.

18. I would never underestimate his sliminess, but it is amazing to me
that the central camp would spend 20% of their post-convention budget on this ad.

They can always pull it, of course, and recoup some losses, but they aren't ones to admit mistakes.

15. The "wolves" ad will backfire. People in battleground states are not
stupid, and they have seen hundreds of ads . This one comes across as a blatant attempt to twist people's minds. People see through this and see it as pathetic. I have already heard people say (at the gym) that it is a stupid ad.

23. We SHOULD have been able to turn this on them
but I don't see the "Eagle" ad doing that. It's perplexing: Democrats are represented in the best, brightest, most creative segments of society. As far as psycological impression and media manipulation we should be RULING in the ad wars but I don't think we do.

How about answering the wolf ad with some cartoon footage of wolves and something along the lines of "while George Bush plays games with scary images, here are some images we want to remind you about", followed by bin laden or food lines or gas station price signs or Iraq footage or blah blah blah, I'm not the genius but we HAVE some.

24. Live in a red state, so
I haven't seen the "wolves" ad yet. Certainly hope it is a stupid as you say. What has me amazed is *'s new catch phrase that Kerry "can run, but he can't hide". I realize that I am extremely partisan, so please correct me if I'm wrong- But EVERY SINGLE FRIGGIN TIME he says that, doesn't he remind the listener that he said the SAME EXACT thing before, and still hasn't caught Osama Bin Forgotten? I am beginning to think that Rove is just as big an idiot as his candidate.

28. Exactly!!! I CAN'T BELIEVE HE EVEN SAYS THAT!
It makes him look extremely forgetful and...kinda crazy!! It sure didn't look like Kerry was hiding from GWB in the debates, it looked like GWB was falling apart. So it makes even less sense!

29. Rove is given way too much credit
he couldn't get W elected last time, could he? And he's not succeeding this time either, as far as I can see. All this "political genius" stuff is nonesense, he's done a mediocre job at best, by any measure.

31. Wolves:
Never Cry Wolf is a classic novel of nature that examines how fear is derived from things we don't understand and how that fear can lead to potential destruction. Farley Mowat is the first to study and document the wolves in their natural habitat. His findings are astonishing and forever changed how science and society viewed canis lupus.

Interestingly enough, Mowat named the 'father wolf' George.

It's been many years since I read this book - but it dispels the myth of wolves as being the same sociopathic predator species as, say, the Halliburton or the Carlyle - or even the Neo-con.

32. And *AHEM* not to mention, a critique of the text also
"they wanted to weaken our intelligence gathering abilities" ????

Oh right, now THAT would have been tragic. Just let the Democrats get ahold of that intelligence gathering mechanism, and who knows WHAT they might do to it! Why, when they were finished messing with it, our mighty infallible intelligence units might have, oh I don't know, gotten things wrong! Missed things! Made shit up that wasn't there! Just imagine!
