OMG, Wolves ad was held for 5 months!
It's the October surprise or something like it. Focus groups, according to Dana Bash on CNN found it so effective that the repugs held it for five months to use as a nuclear bomb just before the election!

Golden retriever makes friendly with neighborhood pet wolf:

The wolf's hair is standing on end because she thinks the dog is HOT! She flirted with him for about 20 minutes, but to no avail. Poor wolf.

54. She's 2/3 timber wolf, 1/3 malamute
they are legal as pets in the state of Florida (where I live). Look at the legs; Malamutes are working dogs and have thicker legs, wolves are taller, and have elegant, slender legs.

The breeders even have a website. Just Google "wolfdog breeders".

68. Lol! She's a friend's wolf
her name is Nakoma. She enjoys chasing squirrels, going for dips in the lake, and flirting (obviously). Her owner is great with her; she's VERY obedient and loyal. He cooks her meals at home using free range beef, venison, garlic and fresh vegetables; thus the beautiful, flea free coat!

75. You're welcome!
:hi:

If you're interested in wolfdogs as pets (no longer called "wolf hybrids" because wolves have the same DNA as domestic dogs. They are just another "breed" of dog) there are a couple of great books out there: 'wolfdogs, A-Z" and "Living with wolfdogs" (I can't remember the autor, but they are both on Amazon). I got them for a friend who has a lab that is no where NEAR as well behaved as Nakoma, and the advice in the books worked beautifully for her!

19. That's the ticket
Given the bubble the chimp lives in, I'm sure the groups had to sign off on all manner of loyalty oaths to the Ministry of Homeland Security before viewing the sacred images. Once properly cowed, they felt an overwhelming urge to approve the glorious information the fuhrer was proposing to provide to his subjects.....What a dumb ad. Where can I get one of those adorable animals for a pet, by the way?

above. She's a very sweet, well behaved pet. More obedient than most of the dogs at the park!

I don't think there has ever been a recorded case of a wild wolf killing a human being. Domestic dogs are more likely to do that (and do, unfortunately).

If they're aiming to make people afraid, that ad is a step in the right direction, what with the horror-movie music and the slow motion wolves.

On the other hand, the suggestion that a 6 billion dollar cut to the intel budget (which was over 6 years, making it 6 billion out of over 300 billion) has weakened us is just rediculous.

47. wonder how it will play in Peoria
as they say? Hard for me to believe that many people are going to see an image of beautiful wild creatures as scary, but judging from the responses any time an organization wants to re-introduce wolves anywhere.... Of course, many of the same people objecting to the re-introduction of wolves in wilderness areas don't object to State laws allowing their neighbors to own tigers, pumas, ect., all of which are far more likely to kill their children - and them - than wolves.

Nonetheless, from the descriptions it is hard to imagine it being all that scary to most people...don't their kids watch National Geo too?

As usual, I am LMAO at the responses in this thread.

That's a good way to compare the Bush and Kerry foreign policy strategies.

Bush wants America to to be the lone wolf, but when times are tough the lone wolf dies cold, hungry, and alone. Kerry want's America to be the leader of the pack. The Alpha Wolf is always safe and well fed.

First, it is dark and dull. Fox News knows that stupid people are attracted to bright colors, so the dummies will not lock on.

Second, listen carefully to the announcer. There is a hint of something that sounds like an IRISH accent--are we trying to reach Catholics here? Oooops--you forgot POLAND!!!!!

Third, my coward of a dog (a coward, a rank, timid, fierce looking coward) found the wolves friendly, too, as did another poster's pet!

Finally, and this is a REAL problem with all of Bush's ads: the "AH'M GEORGE BUSH AN AH UPPROVE THIS MESSICH" is cut into the end of the message, but it comes after a one-beat delay. As a consequence, the audio morphs into the next ad, as though it is the leader for it--and it's really funny if you are looking away, or are in the next room.

Consequently, when I saw the ad on TV, I was treated to George Bush appearing to approve a message for DETROL, one of those great big pharma drugs that helps people who always have to piss like a racehorse (Gotta go, gotta go, gotta go right NOW, gotta go, gotta go, gotta GO!).

How very apropos, when one thinks about it!!!!

64. I tried to be serious about this, but....
Sorry this is so large. I'm sure the image host won't keep it for long, so snap it up now while it lasts!

And of course, feel free to distribute it freely.

72. Roger Simon and Karen Tumulty on Lou Dobbs (CNN)
commenting on the wolf ad, don't see the humor. Surprised? Nah. They did make mild cracks about both parties using animals.

74. Where did the wolves hide the boxcutters on 911?
And how did they reach the fight controls on the planes with their short legs and paws?

90. They didn't need to
They just pushed the "automatically fly into the side of the WTC" button, which is between the "automatically fly to Chicago" and the "automatically wash the windshield" buttons.

And don't none of you pilots tell me there's no fucking "crash into a hundred-story building" button on those planes. Mohammed Atta's report card from pilot school says "blind men with no hands fly better than he does" and this was from his Cessna-flying days. And he flew into that building just as pretty as you please.

78. It just ran here ..I heard the voice over but stopped watching before..
they got to the wolves..I couldn't figure out why they were panning thru a forest & just turned away from it.

Perhaps the focus groups needed eyeglasses.

88. Pay attention to the commercial that follows it
...and every Weecowboy ad. They always wait a beat or two and plonk that "AHM GEORGE BUSH, AN AH UPPROVE THIS MESSICH" way too late in the ad. I think they are hoping that greedy advertisers will cut it, or overstep it with another ad, but they never do. To me, who listens to TV more than I actually watch it, the placement of the disclaimer, as I mentioned in a previous post, sounds like an unintentional endorsement of the follow on commercial. So, you get the Village Idiot approving messages for everything from Verizon Wireless to feminine hygiene products...it makes me laugh every time I see a Weewee commercial, because I am hoping for a good follow on--I've yet to see him endorse Trojan Man--but who knows, one day I may get that laugh too!

Edited on Fri Oct-22-04 06:48 PM by DireStrike
I can't watch it streaming... it doesn't work very well with my 56k.

Streaming video is pointless... I have a gmail account so I can receive it there.

Checking the source reveals the URL for the ad is:

mms://media4.streamtoyou.com/gwb/wolves_256k.wmv

I just can't save it.

84. It apparently tested well BEFORE the debates
But the debates showed millions of voters that weren't previously that familiar with Kerry that JK could be trusted with national security. So the kind of smear campaign which relies on voter ignorance isn't going to work as well now. Ha!

Honestly, against the poised, resolved, and presidential John Kerry that America saw at the debates, this ad looks pretty damn stupid.

89. It was probably cretinous Frank LUNTZ
...who ran the focus groups! I saw my enemy on MSNBC today, as a 'guest' commentator (he's no longer on retainer), but they did say he was a REPUBLICAN pollster, twice, in fact. Guess bitching pays off a little bit, anyway.

91. That was five months before
John Kerry "I'm reporting for duty"

John Kerry winning every debate

Cutie pie Edwards being the veep pick

Way way too many more deaths of soldiers, and Iraqi's

Before all the other terror warnings were released and people were starting to question them

Before the last five months of scare tactics.

If you hold a secret, (dumbass this means you Bushco & all your little worthless evil minions) it better be a damn secret.

YAWN.

this morning and all I could think was that after this President gives the national forest to big timber and big oil, we won't have to worry about the wolves, deer, elk, squirrels, etc.

Hitler's favorite animal: The wolf

Hitler's favorite song: "Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf?"

Hitler's nickname: Wolf

Republicans' favorite 1930s German politician: You know...

95. Apparently, John Edwards has called it a "despicable" attempt to
exploit fear among Americans....I just heard it on a BBC News report on the World Service....

It's getting a rise out of the campaign, so maybe it's more effective than posters here think.........
