The Rolling Stone Interview

By Will Dana
Announcing his candidacy

On September 11th, with flags all across New York flying at half-staff, Gen. Wesley Clark paid a visit to the Rolling Stone offices. Though he had not yet declared his intention to seek the Democratic Party's presidential nomination -- that would come six days later in Little Rock, Arkansas -- Clark nonetheless presented himself as a man primed to take on George W. Bush next year. For nearly two hours he fielded questions from the RS editorial board in the magazine's conference room, presenting himself as a former soldier who, following the painful dictates of his conscience, was impelled to break rank with the president, the commander in chief of the armed forces in which he'd served for thirty-four years.

Clark, fit and handsome at fifty-eight, could be George Bush's worst nightmare -- he's tough on national security, in touch with the broad swath of the electorate that supports abortion rights, gun control, environmental protection and a middle-class-oriented tax policy.

2. Hey, he's my one
There's other good choices too, Edwards who is moving up and Kerry. Gephart is a good guy. But Clark is the one who can take it to the house and that's what I want.

The man with the 100 years vision...
I feel truly inspired and elevated by my association with his ideas.
here's a bit from gene Lyins Buzzflash interview:

>

>I want to be careful how I say this, but he has an almost feline

>presence -- and by that I don't mean "catty," as in bitchy. I mean

>like a big cat. I once encountered a mountain lion in the Point

>Reyes National Seashore in California, on a rainy day in winter,

>when I was all by myself. We stood stock still staring at each other

>for a few seconds. And there was this moment of "Gee, that's a

>cougar, this is really cool." And then an instant later, came the

>feeling of "My God, that's a lion!" There's nothing between me and

>him, no fence. Clark has a little bit of that kind of presence. You

>sense a tremendous personal authority about him held in and

>contained by self-discipline. Not somebody to fuck with, is another

>way of putting it.

8. Great interview
Lyons highlights the broad range of voters that Wesley Clark will draw. That's what it will take to beat bush. And he's a terrific candidate to boot.

Seriously. Is it fun?

Would you like to just come right out and express your contempt for this site and its members openly, or do you prefer to play this charade?

22. Winner of Moveon.org's Ad Contest? Former Republican.
From the email I got announcing the winner:

Charlie Fisher is an advertising executive who was a registered Republican until the end of the first Bush administration, in 1992. He is currently on assignment in Denmark and flew in to attend the awards ceremony with his cameraman, P. Dreyer.

"I was thrilled just to participate in this contest," Fisher said. "When we finished editing ‘Child's Pay,’ I felt it was nice -- maybe a little too nice. Perhaps I learned that you don't have to paint a bulls-eye on someone’s forehead to be effective. Most importantly, my Republican father said this when I told him I was making an ad for this contest, not knowing what his reaction would be: ‘I am proud of you for taking part and acting in the world around you.’"

Hmmm, that would mean Charlie Fisher voted for Reagan and Bush I. And now he's slamming Bush too so hard that they're raising money to put his ad on during the Superbowl.

How about that?

The one war criminal running?

The one corporate defense lobbyist running?

The one republican fundraiser running?

The one military industrial complex cog running?

The one guy Bush wants to face down so the election can be all about the military, war, security and fear??

Which one are you talking about?

The guy is positive and strong. Clinton made me feel safe and so does Clark. He's the one who can turn back the clock, reset it, and purge all the negative crap that Bush has laid on us....
