I ate at Taco Bell tonight and have never been so energized! |
|
Not because of the chalupa, that will be repeating on me a couple hours from now.
There was a long, long line (New Hampshire mall location) and I started chatting up a few people. Seems the young lady behind me (with whom I shared a name, one of those names that can be M/F..conversation meant to be!) has a husband in Baghdad. We discussed the election and she said her husband had called her the night before. She told him she was confused and thinking of voting for Bush and he screamed at her all the way from Iraq: "NO! Vote Kerry, get us the hell out of here, MY WHOLE UNIT VOTED FOR KERRY! Why would you vote for Bush?" She explained to him that the media keeps saying that military families support Bush and she felt foolish because she was torn, she wants her husband home safe! Now, I am not one to post overly-optimistic posts, but the fact that that unit in Iraq are behind the Senator gave me a real shot in the arm. Her husband had been in Kosovo, missed the birth of their second child last year, was on his second assignment to Iraq, and was about to be shipped out to Fallujah....I explained (as did the Maine Kerry supporter behind her) how we Democrats support the troops and thank her whole family for their sacrifice, but differ on this President's policies and urged her to vote for Kerry. By the end of the conversation, she and her friend were Kerry voters. Each one, reach one!
Now excuse me, I need a Tums.

convinced people to vote Kerry. I'd say a fair trade if there ever was one.

34. Boycott Taco-Bell, and the terrorists win! |
|
Why should we let the republicans deny us the tasty goodness of Taco Bell?!
I'd say converting some Republican/Undecided/Whatevers to Kerry and hearing the good news about the military vote MORE than makes up for 99 cents going in Taco Bell's evil wallet. In fact, I'd say a Taco-Boycott is pretty fucking LAME compared to actually face-to-face outreach with swing-voters. That is how we're going to win this election, not pissing ourselves about whether our favorite taco-joint is on the "approved" list. It was the phone calls, letters, e-mails, and protests that made Sinclair cave in, not a two-week taco break.
Anyways, well done, platic turkey(s) - you have given us all hope! Let's hope they don't "lose" all those military ballots!

We need to spread these types of stories far and wide. So many troops won't vote for Bush but probably will say that they will so as not to get into trouble. The troops want to come home.
This is just so awesome! Thank you for sharing it.

Did anyone else see a news story yesterday about concerns over whether votes by deployed soldiers would be counted correctly?
Makes you wonder ...

9. This is both encouraging, and sad at the same time. |
|
Encouraging: "My whole unit voted for Kerry"
Sad: This lady's husband is telling her what time it is, basically, and she is conflicted because of what something she saw on TV is telling her she ought to be feeling or thinking.
Arrrgghh.

16. Agreed. It is pathetic. |
|
But the quote: "Get us the hell out of here!" is extremely relevant.
That needs to be played, but I'm not sure how. Kerry has had to finesse this whole issue and I'm not at all sure that had he voted against the authorization of force he would be in a position to win this election.

17. I work with 2 women who have sons in Iraq. |
|
Edited on Fri Oct-22-04 07:37 PM by deuce98
One has a son in the Navy, the other is a Marine. The woman who has the son in the navy showed me a one line email she got from him on Thursday morning. It said "Mom, its all Kerry!". She said it was a response to a question from her asking what the troops were saying they voted for. The Marine mom said her son is saying the exact same thing.
I'd like to tell you more about the kind of vessel he's on, because its important to the story, but I don't want write anything that could even remotely get him in trouble.

22. The fact that they are sponsors to the Kerry smear |
|
and the fact that they were the ones saying "Show your vote":
Grey Davis: "Chicken, soft" taco
Ahnold: "Beef, crunchy/hard" taco
Made me think of a verry, verry nasty disgusting idea.
It involves sitting down in one of their restaurants, eating a meal, drinking a soda, starting to act like you're ill, standing up and staggering toward the restroom as you "don't make it" before doing the "technicolor yawn" . . . purely by "accident", of course . . .
After said yawn, stagger out the door to your car and drive off . . .

I don't buy anything anymore at Taco Bell --found wire and paper in my tacos plus everything was always cold. Don't know if the Health Department would okay this but if the food is always served cold, why do they still have a license?
Yuck!
I have a probably with the temp of food. Excellent source of bacteria and the flu.
I wonder how many times the Shrub ate a Taco Bell? Bet I can count the times on one hand.
A home cook meal is the only way to eat.
I make a batch of something on Sat. and Sun. this gives me meals for the week.

Good to know. And I hope her husband comes back safely...and soon.
