Nice editorial in support of David Ashe

Quick thinking
Fifteen-second sound bites and paper fliers don't allow us to judge the character of a candidate, but recently we got to see a candidate show his mettle. After participating in the Phoebus Days parade, David Ashe, Democratic candidate for the 2nd Congressional District, was working the crowd when Carroll Young, a VFW Post member, collapsed with a massive heart attack. Without hesitation, Ashe dropped to his knees and began to administer CPR in tandem with another gentleman.

Ashe handled mouth-to-mouth resuscitation while the other man administered chest compressions. He continued to do so until an emergency medical team arrived. Young later died, but Ashe's quick thinking and compassionate concern helped keep him alive until professional help arrived. Seeing him on that Saturday and now thinking of his candidacy, I am reminded of a statement I heard years ago: "You can always pretend to care, but you can never pretend to be there." I believe Ashe will be there when we need him.
