A Bush pre-election strike on Iran 'imminent' "October Surprise"
A Bush pre-election strike on Iran 'imminent'
White House insider report "October Surprise" imminent
By Wayne Madsen

10/20/04 "Lebanon Wire" -- According to White House and Washington Beltway insiders, the Bush administration, worried that it could lose the presidential election to Senator John F. Kerry, has initiated plans to launch a military strike on Iran's top Islamic leadership, its nuclear reactor at Bushehr on the Persian Gulf, and key nuclear targets throughout the country, including the main underground research site at Natanz in central Iran and another in Isfahan. Targets of the planned U.S. attack reportedly include mosques in Tehran, Qom, and Isfahan known by the U.S. to headquarter Iran's top mullahs.

3. When I read stories like this, I'm reminded of Mark Twain's comment . . .
"I am an old man and have known many troubles, most of which never happened."

Or, to borrow from Shrub's favorite political philosopher, "Be not therefore anxious for the morrow: for the morrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof."

4. How on earth could invading Iran help the Chimpinator?
He did a crappy enough job selling the Iraq invation; he hasn't really even tried to sell Iran. And whose army is he gonna use? Nope, I don't believe it.

5. Won't work
First -- there would be significant Pentagon and other opposition to such a strike and it would leak like a sieve.

Second -- It would be transparent.

A more plausible scenario would be Israel attacking Iran.

10. Yes Israel attacking Iran makes more sense
then of course we need a strong leader to help defend "the holy land"
Kool aid drinkers would go nuts and start shooting anything not wearing a cross or fishy thing.

7. That would be retarded as hell
And would give even more ammo for Kerry to play the draft card.

14. Exactly!
There's no one left to invade Iran ... unless they plan on putting the Boy Scouts in armored tanks!

Who absolutely predicted, with much excitment here, that there were going to be many indictments on the Plame affair back in July.

13. I wish you would just stop
I agree with everything those other guys said, they seem so much smarter than your contention......it just won't work, and we would have to be insane to tolerate attacking another country, let alone what the world's reaction would be.

15. I really can't understand why this rumor keeps popping up...
It would be the height of insanity for bush to do such a thing, (although sanity does not seem to be bush's strong suit). I also don't think Israel will attack Iran, that also would be insane. I can see the possibilty of strikes by Israel on selected targets, but they would need to be justified before the world, and I don't see anything that comes close to justification.

This should just die a slow, miserable, well deserved death...:)

...so they bomb Israel in advance.

Great move, everyone.

For Bush it would be political suicide.
