I've been thinking over a friendly discussion I had some time back with a guy wearing a gold chimp pin. He has a good job and a family to support. He's extremely intelligent, and he acts dumb. He knows what he has to do to keep his job. He has watched the outsourcing of jobs, the loss of overtime, the increase in health care costs, etc., etc., and he (privately) voiced his concerns and agreed with me on every issue. My guess is that he isn't the only supposed chimp supporter who will vote Kerry. You can treat people like idiots, keep them in the dark, and feed them a lot of manure, but that doesn't make them stupid. I met guys like this when I worked for the Navy. I was in hot water with management because I was outspoken, and a lot of guys came up to me outside the base after work, or when nobody was looking, and told me that they agreed with me and supported what I was doing. They couldn't speak out because then they'd have been fired the way I was. But they can vote. I think this election will show a lot more Kerry votes than there are registered Democrats.
