A very closely watched house race in the 2nd district of Connecticut has challenger Jim Sullivan (the good guy-D) against incumbent Rob Simmons, former CIA operative, for the forces of darkness. Sullivan has fought a hard race and the latest poll out today has him down only 2 points - 48-46. Both sides are targeting this race - Howard Dean, Ted Kennedy and twice Nancy Pelosi have been in the district to support Sullivan. John McCain was recently in town for Simmons, and I think Giuliani may have been as well. (McCain committed a gaffe in talking about Simmons, according to the Hartford Courant - McCain railed against a spending bill that Simmons actually voted for!)
The 2nd district has a lot of old school, blue collar Democrats who voted for Simmons 4 years ago when he defeated long time House member Sam Gejdensen... Gejdensen was a good guy, but he was often (rightfully) accused of not focusing on his district. If Sullivan can win those votes back and pick up some of Kerry's coattails, he has a good shot at winning.
