2. Honestly, I was panicked.
I didn't understand why nobody understood what a threat Bush was and that the portrayal of him as some sort of moderate was a laughably transparent lie.

12. freaked out all summer in OK; no one in IA seemed to understand my
concern.

A colleague for Bush attacked his/her long-time friend for Gore as perhaps 'not a christian.'

Felt really rough surrounded by Bush supporters, tho there were many more open democrats than in 92 and 96.

3. very frustrated
It seeemed to me that Gore didn't get fired up until the last few weeks of the campaign. A lot of cheap shots from the Bush campaign went unanswered. A lot of time wasted not responding to attacks.

Gore did push hard at the end and ended up winning, but not by enough to prevent Bush from stealing the electon.

This time around it seems that Kerry has been hitting back hard earlier in the campaign. He showed up Bush big time in the debates. It just feels better this year to me.

5. I was worried more about Gore in 2000 than I am worried about
Kerry now. In 2000 I didn't see near the enthusiam as I see for Kerry. To be honest I see more enthusiam for Kerry than I did Clinton in 92 or 96. I feel if we can't win this one decisively I don't know what it would take. The way I see after we we win it the story will how we won it not how Bush lost it.

8. I felt Bush would win.
It was a sinking feeling that the country was sick of the incumbent party and Gore had no appeal.

This time around I am far more optimistic. I think Kerry wins in a squeaker with about 295 EV.

9. I was 14
and not as involved. I knew that they had demonized Al Gore to the extent that everyone thought he was a liar, but not much more than that. I liked Al--still do. A good man and a good politician.

10. I was confident that Gore would win.
I just couldn't imagine that there would be that many people stupid enough to vote for *. But I wasn't following politics very much in those days. I always voted -- and always voted Dem -- but otherwise I was rather blissfully UNobsessed with politics. That all changed pretty fast after the 2000 selection...

11. I wasn't aware the polls were so bad back then
In 2000, I followed Gallup's numbers, and I was ready to give up. I was amazed on election night that Gore did so well (read: won). Now I am amazed that anyone at Gallup still has a job.

I feel good about this one. Kerry has fought hard and went 3 for 3 in the debates. We have the truth on our side. If we show up, we win.

13. I thought it was over...my mom was optimistic.
Every day when she'd pick me up from school I'd ask about the latest polling numbers and she'd give them. I would shake my head and she'd say that she KNEW he was going to win. I always hoped she was right, but expected that since Gore was coming out of a popular presidency that he should logically be up by at least 8 points.

Needless to say I expected a Bush victory......

14. The media had been slaughtering Gore all campaign
Edited on Sat Oct-23-04 10:29 PM by BeyondGeography
His debate performances were "disappointing." He used consultants to tell him what clothes to wear. He kissed Tipper too hard at the convention. He wasn't using Clinton at all. Lieberman was turning out to be a bad pick. The Cole had just been attacked. And Bush was starting to lead in all the polls.

So I was shitting myself, but I still couldn't imagine that Bush would be elected. Same as this year.

I believe Gore salvaged the popular vote with an incredible last week, when he sprinted across the entire country and showed the type of passion that we're now accustomed to seeing in his MoveOn.org speeches. Meantime Junior and Rove took their feet off the gas pedal in the last week, claiming inevitability. By Election Day, I thought we had a shot. BushCo won't make the same mistake this coming week, but we're playing a better hand this time, and they have this little problem of their record to contend with.

16. I foolishly underestimated Bush...
Edited on Sat Oct-23-04 10:36 PM by Tom_Foolery
I thought that he was a huge joke and there was no way that this country would put this idiot in the presidency. I paid no attention to the polls because I thought that Gore would waltz right into office, coming from such a popular and successful administration. I mean, my God, the economy was booming. I had money in my pocket and in the bank. Hell, about everybody I knew had more money than they had ever had in their lives. I never dreamed that Gore would lose. Well, of course, he didn't lose; he was robbed.

Anyway, I'm not underestimating Bush this time. I've watched this campaign like a hawk. Come 6pm on November 2nd, I will be glued to the TV.
