Goddamnit, I think I lost my in-laws to *. This sucks.
Took my father in law to see F911 when it came out. At the time, he walked out saying that it was the "best documentary I've ever seen." He had voted for Bush in 2000, but I thought he was going to put his lot in with Kerry this time.

Now tonight, I heard from my wife that he told her that F911 was "mostly conjecture" and asked her if she thought I'd be willing to go with him to see "Celcius 41.11". I also heard tonight that he and his wife have already voted.

Goddamn it, I'm sure I lost him. I tried so fucking hard, too. Every time he got some bullshit Freep-mail, I'd give him answers or direct him to where to find them.

If Bush wins, I hope that he likes the idea of saying goodbye to his daughter, his step-grandaughter, and me. Because I'm not fucking staying here if Bush gets to be president for four more years.

1. Aww. I feel badly for you. Can't say you didn't try.
My only saving grace for my in-laws is that they don't vote and haven't voted in at least 10 years!

2. Don't get me wrong ...
I feel really confident about Kerry's chances right now. Moreso than I've felt for a long time. I firmly believe that the only thing barring a clear Kerry victory is GOP corruption or other shenanigans.

3. Why not concentrate on
trying to turn a couple of undecideds toward Kerry instead? That will cancel out your in-law's votes - and if you can turn a few more undecideds, it would be even better.

There are some people who simply will never change or listen to reason, and it's the equivalent of banging your head against a brick wall to try. Better to find the greener pastures.

I know how you feel about another four years of Bush. I very much fear for my elderly mother who is still in the US should Bush get in again.

4. Ask them about what they think about Bush's Medicare policies

If they have a clue, they'll be right back in the Kerry camp.

Here's a place to start:

6. Show it to them anyway
The hell with them. Rub their noses in the reality that their healthcare is going to suck in 2006 if Chimpy gets his banana back again.

Hopefully they see the light and tell their friends they made a mistake.

Nah...the hell with them.

7. I think I've lost my Dad too.
He won't outrightly admit supporting Bush to me, but I think he's been scared by the "terra terra terra" media machine (as though Kenner, LA is a coveted terrorist target.. sure..). And I've made it well-known that I think Chimp-supporters have IQs averaging in the double digits. The sad thing is, he claims to be concerned about the environment and scientific progress while voting for this knuckle-dragger..

8. My sincere sympathies to you...
I'm so sorry about the rift in your family. Hopefully, with a Kerry win, things will smooth out later on down the line.

Just imagine Kerry--though having his hands really really full from the bush mess--imagine him getting something "positive" going..something that everyone can relate to. That could be the thing that softens your family and causes them to realize that Kerry WAS THE RIGHT CHOICE and they will warm up to you as well. Don't throw them away yet...wait and look to the future.

I like what one poster said here that you can simply go round and look for other people to persuade for Kerry....if you succeed, you'll feel really great and be able to sleep better. :) Hang in there..

Very Best Wishes,

9. try getting them to vote for your future
It's our future on the line. They are secure, they got good wages,
they got pensions, they get their social security checks, they
have medicare...

what do we get? slave labor jobs that are pretty much temporary,
outrageous tuition so college is not available, no health care,
and twin deficits that threaten economic collapse (the trade
deficit plus the budget deficit).

Beg them to vote for your future and kick * out of office.

10. I'm having to deal with my girlfriend's family, too.
Her mom just sent us a letter this morning talking about how we shouldn't be "radical," but compassionate and understanding. LOL I'm no radical, but apparently they think I am, and they think that I'm influencing her.

My girlfriend is going to respond tomorrow morning. I want in on it, but I think she want's to do it herself.

11. My dad voted for Raygun
and I haven't had any contact with him. Knowing him -- he is following that vote with his vote this year for *ush.

Unfortunately he forgot what he learned in Vietnam.

Then my husband's cousin is a rabid GOPer -- and I won't have a thing to do with him. Not worth my time. My husband believes I should be open minded and just avoid politics. However, this is impossible when their house was filled with vile anti democratic crap -- all their coffee cups had anti-democratic hate slogans -- every single bit of reading material in their house was hate filled GOP crap.

It is hard to imagine how anyone can heal all the harm done by the hate which began in the 1980s under Raygun. We are just seeing the results of slow cooking hatred (Hunting of the President -- and the vast Right wing conspiracy -- are examples of the puss filled hate of the GOPers.)

Some relatives have become cult members -- and thus they have become toxic to be around.
