The "other" John O'Neill
Found while looking for info on the not so swift
boat guy. Dated but interesting nonetheless ...
Plenty of meaty material for swinging votes ???

In August 2001, FBI Deputy Director John O'Neill resigned from his post over George W. Bush's policy on terrorism and Osama bin Laden. Specifically, O'Neill's department was told to "back off" their bin Laden and Al Queda investigations while the Bush administration negotiated with the Taliban. O'Neill became the security chief of the World Trade Center - where he died during the events of 9/11.

4. you can stream in on the web, American tragedy!
Unbelievable, power politics and BS ...he knew tried so hard
to end up killed by the very thing he tried to stop.

Tragic.

We need a "real heros" list and this guy is one of them.

He's in a book called "The Forbidden Truth" by a couple
of French guys, came about in early 2002.

5. Hmm.

You do know that Richard Clarke is not married, right?
See, I've love listening to Clarke. His voice just crawls
right down inside of me.

8. I have no idea how any of them can be married
John O'neil was in a LTR but these guys live and breath natinal security. They are almost never in the country.
I went out once over 2 years ago with a great guy from Naval Intel, He was assigned Baihran(sp?). he has been out of the country for most of the last 2 years and leaving again in January.Much too difficult to keep a relationship together.

10. Sorry to hear that.

They pay is pretty good, though, if you can handle
having an absentee husband. Lots of people do it.

I would. Having a man underfoot all the time would
bug me. I like men, don't get me wrong. But it's hard
work to maintain one full time, and I don't have the
motivation.

(No kids, cat only.)

18. I don't know about crawling inside anyone
but I listened to the audiobook and the thing I liked (apart from the content) is that he actually did the voice characterizations.

Excellent Clinton, very good Bush. Subtle, but good.

August 19: New York Times reports that O'Neill is suddently under investigation for the "brief case incident." Tom Pickard, second in command at FBI tells O'Neill he can pretty much kiss the promotion chance goodbye. It is clear O'Neill, like Freeh, is being squeezed out. Friends of O'Neill have said that Pickard, who was very cozy with Ashcroft and the Bush team, acted as the number one road block to O'Neill's efforts to progress in the agency. After Sept. 11, Pickard, who, unlike O'Neill and Freeh, had NO experience invetsigating terrorism (his speciality was white collar crime) was placed in charge of the Sept. 11 investigation and also the anthrax investigation. In November, Pickard retired.

9. That Frontline episode should be required viewing for every
single person living in America. John O'Neill is a hero to me. He tried so hard to get people to listen to him. I know he was killed on 9-11, but I hold a lot more people responsible for his death than just the hijackers. All the people who fought against him, especially that bitch in Yemen, when he was there investigating the Cole incident. Can't remember her name. She was heading the State Dept. there I think. It's been a while since I've watched the program. I was mind numb for a week after watching it.

12. It's a shame Frontline doesn't get the viewership it deserves
This one

The Jesus Factor

The Choice 2004

Frontline ROCKS!

But, what do the big 4 networks show? "Reality" shows that are based in as much reality as Bush himself.

16. No kidding. I look for those shows. Something that actually
requires my brain to be present when watching.
Tonight on FSTV (Free Speech TV) for the poor folk who don't get it, they had a show on GWB called W's War.
On the listing, they call it 'There's Something About W.'

It gave a good overview on how horribly he's done as pResident. It might be a good program to show to an undecided voter.

Here's the link for the programming:

FSTV is on DISH Network and some cable stations.

15. That's the woman!
Or, to put it in correct terms, the BITCH. I remember that she wouldn't say ANYTHING to Frontline about John O'Neill. Wonder why?
GUILT maybe?

I hope Richard A. Clarke reads DU too. If he wants my name and number, he can have it. :loveya: I'm one of those ladies. lol.
He's good looking. But what attracts me is his strength, courage and refusal to back down when everyone around him is trying to twist his words and their meaning. He is going to get the truth out NO MATTER WHAT. Talk about hot! Give me a man who's not afraid of the 'big bad wolf in Washington.' :)

U.S. Terrorism Policy Spawns Steady Staff Exodus
Wed Apr 7, 7:45 PM ET Add Politics - Reuters to My Yahoo!

By Caroline Drees, Security Correspondent

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Since the Sept. 11 attacks, the Bush administration has faced a steady exodus of counterterrorism officials, many disappointed by a preoccupation with Iraq (news - web sites) they said undermined the U.S. fight against terrorism.

Former counterterrorism officials said at least half a dozen have left the White House Office for Combating Terrorism or related agencies in frustration in the 2 1/2 years since the attacks.

Some also left because they felt President Bush (news - web sites) had sidelined his counterterrorism experts and paid almost exclusive heed to the vice president, the defense secretary and other Cabinet members in planning the "war on terror," former counterterrorism officials said.

"I'm kind of hoping for regime change," one official who quit told Reuters.

The administration's handling of the battle against terrorism is a key issue for the presidency, and could be key to Bush's re-election effort.
