Does anyone think the "Wolves" ad is very effective?
My take on it is that it's a bit half-baked and actually a turnoff to the no-opposable-thumb crowd. The primary error is it casts the United States of Amurrica in the role of a small furry something about to be eaten by vicious (although rather unhealthy looking) predators.

Will the bushbase respond positively to an ad that casts them as weak, "unmanly" victims?

They needed something like Davy W. Crocket at the Alamo and a wicked John Kerry lookalike letting the perfidious (swarthy and maybe even bearded!) enemy in through the gates. Sort of Georgie does Troy thing.

Or am I mixing too many metaphors here?

1. Everyone I've see it with thinks it's.. umm..
"Cheesy." yes, that's the word.

And they're too busy saying, "awww.." - or watching that one on the left jump over the other one as they all begin to run in different directions.

2. It casts voters...
...as "sheep", with Bush as a shepherd, leading them to slaughter, but by golly, not by any dirty wolves, but for the glory of corporatism.

4. The thing that makes me scratch my head the most is the voice-over
What type of messed up accent is that?

I really wonder if any ads are having an effect this late in the game. I live in Maine and watch TV stations that have coverage that leaks into New Hampshire. We have been swamped with constant ads since January.

7. It was bizarre. The dogs went off in different directions. Also looked..
like puppies to me. Well, the one who jumped over the other one.

GF said they looked "cute".

Not the effect they wanted. Are they playing it anywhere?

Playing it in Arizona. Ad nauseum. I am losing weight from lack of appetite due to all the damn Shrub/Cheney bullshit ads. They are truly sickening.

24. Thanks for posting that link to my "The Boy Who Cried Wolf"
I reworked the "Wolves" Bush Commercial because I couldn't stand this commercial being touted as THE big Bush Ad buy of the Century - so I created a Quicktime version that is more suitable - called "The Boy Who Cried Wolf" --

I think THIS ONE will take some of the swelling out of Chimpy's head..

it helps to bring up the fact that Bush sat on his ASS during 911 while the REAL WOLVES brought the world down.

Pass it around if you will, now I'm off to see the killer kittens.. there's a Giant Cockapoo attacking the Capitol in another thread as well :)

11. Yep, VERY effective.

It will remind everyone how out of touch with reality bush is, how he so wrongfully equates those beautiful creatures as "terrorists" so kill em all! Slaughter them all! Destroy! Destroy!

It will remind everyone how destructive bush is on our environment, the only true legacy we have to leave for our children & our children's children; CHOP DOWN all them frightening trees hiding all them "terrorists"! Destroy! Destroy!

It will remind everyone of how bush sees Americans as "schoolchildren" who need a "daddy"; Americans are just a flock of frightened silly little SHEEP, in bush's mind.

It will remind everyone that bush has no record to run on; all he can and does do is terrorize the American people. Be afraid! Be afraid!

It will remind everyone that bush was such a total COWARD during Vietnam, he was such a total COWARD on 911, yet he sees us as being the cowards.

Yep. VERY effective ad.

Oh...you mean is it effective for BUSH.

18. I zone right out....
I work in marketing, and have for over 15 years, I find the commercial to be akin to some old school 70's campaign, I don't think that anyone who watches television or has for the last decade will even notice it.

Unfortunately if todays television viewer isnt caught by the message within the first 5 seconds of the ad, they will lose the message.

this ad is so completely non-effective. I think that perhaps some other oldie timey in the * campaign hired an oldschool ad agency buddy to try to present their message. They'd do better hiring a music video director.

Yawn.

21. It is the damn REAGAN BEAR AD
almost scene for scene, but it SUCKS!!!!

...(stentorious tone) THERE IS A BEAR IN THE WOODS....(invoking those dangerous russkies who could not even pay their army while we were supposedly in the fight of our lives against them--those STRONG Russkie bears, yeah!)

Of course, being a smartass, the first thing I thought about with that Reagan commercial was the many times my old dad asked me "Does a bear shit in the woods?" when the answer was obvious... Apparently, though, a lot of dumb idiots in America did not realize that bears actually shat in the woods. They thought they cozied up to a bear rest station with a big fat roll of charmin...at least that is what my TV tells me, these days. Silly Americans ... who vote GOP!

Anyway, that BEAR thing is what he was going for. Problem is, RUSSIAN BEAR is like BOSTON RED SOX or NEW YORK YANKEES. It's a brand name. BUT--big problem! The terrorists just aren't BRANDED yet--TERRORIST WOLVES? Naaaah. Come on, we are talking Afghanistan, Iraq, and soon Iran, if nitwit makes it go that way--how about TERRORIST HOOKAHS? TERRORIST KABOBS? CAMELS, even!

No one wants wolves associated with terrorists--how many high school teams will have to change their name? It will RUIN the expression "the wolf is at the door!" What? Are you starving, or is Usama sitting on the front stoop with an IED? Or, "Watch out for him, he's a real wolf!" Horny guy, or terrorist?

Too late in the season to try to change our language, George!

The woman with the 'vague' Irish accent narrating the damn thing was supposed to reel in the Irish Catholic Americans who are trending Kerry, but they hope will be reeled back with a subtle evocation of the auld sod. Problem is, she has the accent of a goddamn PROD (no offense to any Prods, please, I am just makin' a wee Irish *POLITICAL* point here that the Bushistas apparently missed). There's a difference. Anyone close enough to the first generation can hear the difference, and feel the brutal British boot upon the hapless Irish Catholic neck with that accent! If you've heard it, ya know it. Talk about a waste of time and money. And talk about some "for SHIT" or should I say "fer Shite!" research!!!

But it is funny. Funny as all hell! And the little wolves are cute!

19. It doesn't come close to the DNC's
recent ad showing W laughing while the dumb ass jokingly pretends to look for WMDs, with the cutaway to the sister of a GI killed, looking for those oh-so-silly WMDs. That ad is a killer.

I wish they would make an ad of W's "some people call you the elite, I call you my base" speech.

Actually I'm quite happy Bush blew his wad on this one.

This thing probably would have been more effective.
