Poll puts Maine in Kerry column
Maine may have lost its standing as a presidential battleground state by sliding into the Democratic column, according to a newspaper poll that gives Sen. John Kerry an 11-point lead over President Bush among likely voters.

...

Kerry is leading statewide and in each of the state's two congressional districts, but he is more popular in the 1st District than in the 2nd District, the poll conducted for the Portland Press Herald/Maine Sunday Telegram by Zogby International, of Utica, N.Y., found.

The poll of 402 likely voters, conducted Oct. 20 and 21, had Kerry with 50.1 percent statewide to 39 percent for Bush, with only 1.1 percent supporting Ralph Nader, who survived Democratic attempts to keep him off the ballot. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 5 percentage points.

"You're not in play" any more on the national scene, pollster John Zogby said of Maine, leaving about 10 other states that remain toss-ups, including New Hampshire.

This just reiterates what I'm seeing and hearing on the streets! Maine is Kerry Country.

1. Why am I not surprised?
And to think, I had actually considered the possibility of the Chimp getting an electoral vote from this state! Silly me!

2. Wow that's not even close
I remember seeing it outlined in light red on electoral-vote.com back in September and got a bit worried ... glad to see the people in ME are breaking big for Kerry.

5. Hopefully Bush can't peel
off one electoral vote from the second district. I'm not too worried though. It seems unlikely to happen at this point.

I always remember that this is the state where Perot beat Bush Sr.

6. At this point what I want to know is if it's safe to vote for the
socialist running for Congress or if I should vote for Michaud for safety's sake.

7. Great news about the tax cap as well
We don't need Eric Cianchette and MBNA getting huge tax breaks.
