the "Joe or No Go" movement is growing |
|
a lot of my moderate & conservative friends are saying they'll stay home unless Joe gets the nomination.
they're not the type of people that would vote for Bush, but they're not the type of people that would vote for Dean either.

6. If you use the "between the 40 yard lines" strategy it is |
|
If you use the "get the base registered and to the polls" strategy, then a more left candidate is preferable.
I've never been a fan of the "between the 40 yard line" voting strategy as it does little to energize those who normally would not vote -- Tapping that supply of votes is much more powerful in size alone. Additionally, it involves getting people into the process which is a significantly better long-term strategy than one that virtually asks them to stay at home.

7. Id rather drink poison and move to Haiti |

than vote for Joe. Peroid. He would lose, and lose big.
And even if he won, who the hell cares? PNAC with a different president.
The PNAC agenda must be stopped, and furthermore, the democratic party must redefine itself or be truly lost tryign to pander to the "middle", which is defined by the right. Joe can do no good on both fronts...changing America, and changing our foreign policies.

10. BTW, Id not only not vote for Joe, but probably for Bush... |
|
Last thing the left needs is a centrist scapegoat pandering representative that will enable a reactionary movement of the right against them, and do nothing the further the agenda of the progressive. He would just render the entire democratic party irrelevant. Id rather give Bush a few more years to go down in flames and end up in jail. We don't need Joe to be the reason for a cyclic right-leaning realignment of our political atmosphere due to his mistakes and pandering scapegoat nature.
But, then again, it may ressurect and ensure a 3rd party in another 4 years, which would most definately be seen as a good thing. All true progressives and liberals would leave the inneffective democratic party, which would become a haven for moderates like Joe and Zell Miller. You can never read the future fully.

...the RW has already tested a theory concerning 3rd parties. They can be made to self-destruct at will. Anyone remember the Reform Party, or that Pat Buchanan publicly denounced the Republican party, and then swept in with a small vocal group and took the Reform Party over essentially, and all were but powerless to stand and watch. Or how about Ralph Nader, who didn't even advocate half the platform of the Green Party, and was himself not a member.
I fear that with the present GOP mafia, they are now testing their methodologies on larger targets in order to "quiet" dissent and opposition. Bush and Rove are positively pathological in the manner in which they operate. And despite the claims of the RW, I have NO desire to "tie up and burn the Christians" or "feed the RW to the lions" or even "suppress the free speech rights of those that wish to assert their right to be proud of being morans, because it makes their simple life that much more tolerable". But it is time for them to SIT DOWN AND SHUT UP, they've HAD their say, and we're currently experiencing the results...terrorism, war, religious and regional strife, an escalation in the costs and risks involved in living.
BE AFRAID!!!
The structure of the system is seeking to control a growing number of increasingly unpredictable and uncontrollable variables. Hey, like Kissinger said, the Earth can only realistically sustain a "top population" limit of around 1 billion persons. And some people still believe in the concept of Divine Right of Rule.
3rd Party? Not in the United States, not anytime soon. Sad isn't it, but this is the risk one runs when they allow 'entities' to increasingly extend and enhance their rights over and above basic 'human rights'.
we could always re-assure ourselves by claiming to be "making history"...assuming anyone is left to read it, and doesn't just re-write it.

Lieberman/Dean in 2004! An unstoppable combo! Lieberman will get the conservative Dems and Dean will get the people who are pissed at Bush and we'll take the White House in a landslide! What's not to love about this winning combo? Go Joe and Howard! Yeah!!! :toast: :loveya:

21. Spammer or not, there may be a point here |
|
I have seen plenty of argument here that we need a candidate that is "strong on defense" to win. Joe is the only candidate that can truly compete with Bush* in this regard. He made it clear at the last debate that he was the only candidate prepared to "use the sword" as necessary to win the war on terrorism and "transform" the middle east.
By comparison, all the rest of the candidates are calling for some form of surrender. They all seem to be in the DK "UN in US out" camp albeit with different emphasis and timetables. Joe is the one who is prepared to take the IWR theme and "finish the job".
If you believe that a candidate that is "strong on defense" is the only path to democratic victory in November, you really should give Joe another look.
I don't happen to believe this, therefore my suport for Howard Dean.

I'll happily vote for Joe if he gets the nomination. *snicker*
The voting record over his lifetime is quite liberal, and he would put-forth very quality Supreme Court nominees. We need a few nominees like Rehnquist - ones who vote like Ginsburg and stay there for more than 30 years!
