Do you think all these endorsements from prior Bush supporting papers |
|
actually impact the vote?
We seem to be making a big deal of it on DU but my question is, does it really change any votes. It obviously feels great to see all these papers coming out for Kerry, and the many that endoresed Bush last election endorsing Kerry this time, but, and here is the question: does it change any votes?

1. I think they reflect the fact that a lot of votes have been changed |
|
already. There's a lot of voters that feel the same way those newspaper editors do.

2. They may help the undecideds... |
|
...decide. Some Bush supporters just might need that extra push that comes from knowing other conservatives aren't able to endorse Bush.

3. I don't know how much it affects voters' minds. |
|
I do think it's a reflection of how much Bush has screwed up in four short years, that papers that endorsed him in 2000 have switched to the Democratic challenger.

5. It contributes to the overall comfort/confidence level for Kerry as Prez |
|
That's how I think it impacts the voters.
Either way, it feels good and I like the feeling!

6. I would like to think it has an effect but I think it's more of an |
|
indicator than anything else. These editors are voters too, who talk to other voters and hopefully they represent at least some of the thinking population. But who knows, they may sway some, especially those who don't start reading the papers until now.

7. It's A Sense Of The Split In The GOOP |
|
No one talks now, but if Bunnypants goes down look for there to be one hell of a fight in that "Big Tent"...and many of these editorials are those quiet moderate voices that went along with Bunnypants down the road to ruin and are now positioning themselves to pick up the pieces after the crash & burn.
I know the endorsement of my local paper (The Daily Hearld...Hey Kerry people, get that one up on your website!!!) is more damning to Bunnypants than it endorsing Kerry, but then consider the source and that if these mainstream Conservative and Republicans are feeling so strongly as to put these words in print, imagine how many are thinking it, won't say it aloud, but will do so when it comes to pulling the lever or dimpling the chad a week from Tuesday.
We are too political here to sense the nuances that are playing on those who either are avoiding all the noise of the campaign, or keeping a healthy distance. An endorsement from a paper like the Orlando Sentinel (the editor on C-SPAN this morning was incredible) and the others might not sway minds, but it will help to reassure those who were thinking of doing the unthinkable (voting for Kerry) or just sitting this one out.
