Why I'm voting for John Kerry (ChicagoTrib conservative)
At the age of 50, I get few chances to try something entirely new. Come Nov. 2, I plan to take one of those rare opportunities. I'm going to vote for a Democrat for president.

I've never done it before, and I hope I never have to do it again. But President Bush has made an irresistible case against his own re-election. His first term has been one of the most dismal and costly failures of any presidency. His second promises to be even worse.

I know there are people for whom voting Democratic comes easily. Not me. Contemplating the prospect, I feel how I did a few years ago when I took up downhill skiing: not sure I would like it, and apprehensive of the risks involved. I cast my first presidential ballot in 1972 for Richard Nixon, and since then I have alternated between voting Republican and voting Libertarian.

This is by no means a democrat or a liberal, his columns reflect over time what he claims here to be a libertarian leaning republican.

seems to me as if the Trib is trying to mitigate the loss of face for endorsing the worst pres in my lifetime and probably most of yours.

GO KERRY!!!!

1. OMG I'm confident now, no more doubt. This will be Reaganesque landslide.
The Orlando Sentinel, Stephen Chapman who never voted Democrat before, John Eisenhower, prominent Dixie papers that didn't go for Gore. The Sun Times. 17 anti Gore papers that flipped.

The signs are there, can't you see them? Can't f~~~~~ wait!

2. If the real conservatives are actually paying attention...
...To Steve Chapman, Carl Worden of the Sierra Times, Bob Barr, Ike Eisenhower's son, Ron Reagan Jr and others, it should make their decisions much easier.
