Next time around, Next Election, YOU can do this.
http://www.warrenctydems.com

See that? When I started that site, for my local Democratic Committee(for no pay, thank you), I knew very little about websites, PhP, MySQL and all that.

Guess what? I have learned some, but as ghod is my witness, do not let me near a script with a text editor. Period. I'll blow something up.

My point is, with either the software I use, Xoops or some of the other PhP-based Content Management System packages that are out there, YOU can do this. Really. This stuff is easy to install, easy to to run and manage, has loads of modular features that you can add and, you can give a web presence to entities and candidates who might not be able to afford it.

You can do this. We can do this. It works. The site is getting lots of hits and will be remaining up, as in NJ, we have elections in 2005.

Check it out. YOU can make a difference.

One other benefit: This has led to me making some money doing this stuff. Not too shabby.

2. Bookmarking ... nice site!
And adding you to my "buddy list" for reference in future elections. :D

Carter Thompson's website (see sig) is mine, but it's pretty simple and static. However, it only took two hours to do, and it was frightfully cheap, and if I didn't do it, no one would have... so it's better 'nuttin! :D

3. Yes! The beginnings of a new permanent infrastructure!
Great work, and a model for our future. Dynamic updates, debunking, feedback to/from community. This is what web democracy looks like.

Thanks for the Xoops tip too. I will check it out and learn a bit. I just spent time this week hacking a php form mail replacement for a website, and "it's hard work" for an arts oriented person. But gets easier as you go. Xoops sounds like a comprehensive way to easily add in modules. I like!

Imagine the DNC or other national body with funds, bankrolling a small army of web authors, * paid fairly * to put up sites all across the country, promoting locals.
Imagine local citizens being able to enter forums, read updated blog entries, see current scheduled events, all from home or at the local library. Webrings to adjoining counties, etc.
This could address the complaint of distant, non-responsive govt. and involve people, encourage volunteerism, and be a secular support system in general.
The mind reels at the possibilities.
