BBush Says U.S. Safety from Terror 'Up in the Air'

WACO, Texas (Reuters) - President Bush (news - web sites) said in a television interview the United States was safer from terrorism but whether it can ever be fully safe was "up in the air."

Bush also told the Fox News Channel's "Hannity and Colmes" show to be broadcast on Monday night that the U.S. government had no "actionable intelligence" pointing to a pre-election attack in the works as happened in Madrid earlier this year to disrupt the Spanish election.

"We do believe that they have -- because of what happened in Madrid -- that they do think about whether or not they can try to disrupt our elections," Bush said.

He said there was "nothing specific" pointing to a pre-election attack but rather "a kind of general intent."

3. This will backfire on Bush
He wants to scare people into voting him, but by saying we aren't secure, he's condemning his own Administration's actions-a scared person is going ask, "Why haven't you made me safe?"

5. Bush should launch a pre-emptive strike on Never-Never Land!
Edited on Sun Oct-24-04 02:53 PM by rullery
Since he has now identified our safety as being "up in the air", and given his penchant for launching pre-emptive strikes against nations that he imagines might be a danger (Iraq), it makes sense that he will now order the Air Force to go up in the air - and attack!

6. He obviously thought his safety was "up in the air" on 9/11 when
he scurried away on Air Force One.

7. "Up in the air", WTF? Was he talking about the Flu?
If so, then Eleanor Cliff on McLaughlin today had it right:
"If he can't protect us from the flu, how can he protect us from terrorists?"
