Austin American-Statesman's endorsement of Bush* does not go unchallenged.
http://www.statesman.com/metrostate/content/custom/blogs/lasso/index.html

They were hooting and cars driving by were honking as several hundred folks — some donning John Kerry masks — turned out in downtown Austin to protest the Austin American-Statesman’s endorsement of President George Bush.

There were the requisite chants: “Bush, Cheney, they won’t last; put the Statesman in the trash.” There were homemade signs and protests. One person handed out sheets to put on trashcans: “Please Deposit American-Statesman Here, Where It Belongs.”

And there were a lot of pro-Kerry signs. The crowd filled the east side of the bridge (within sight of the Statesman building) and there were a good number of folks on the west side.

I didn't get to dump my paper in the trash but I'm dumping my subscription as soon as I can get someone on the phone. And I've been a subscriber since 1973!

2. I wonder if their subscriptions have fallen in the last few years....?

I know I don't read it anymore due to their obvious bias. And I told them so when they called trying to get me to subscribe again.

It's a big embarrassment for the Texas liberal mecca.

What has REALLY annoyed me is that the Austin Chronicle will not fess up to their clear liberal bias either, even though that's their roots and reason for longevity. They seem to want to downplay that fact in favor of seeming more neutral I guess. Haven't figured it out yet.....

3. ah, yes, the UN-american statesman ... a whole new place to hook 'em horns
boycott them ... make them pay, like Bill Clinton says ... with your early voting turnout having already been so HUGE, don't you think Travis County will STILL go Kerry?

another Longhorn here (albeit, off the TX reservation)

6. The news of the endorsement came out last night so they announced
a "flash mob" for today.

10. Fast as a speeding email!

I was there and yelled myself hoarse.

On edit: And we got a very, very postive response from the majority of traffic on the bridge. Just because someone has a big ol' truck do NOT assume they're repukes!

9. Freepers send threatening emails and letters or throw bricks through
windows. No one on DU argued with the right to cancel a subscription and/or advertising to express a political view; we just found ways to support the Iconoclast. I express no hatred toward the Statesman but I am cancelling my subscription. Bush* supporters who support their endorsement are free to pick up the slack by those of us who end our business relationship.

11. AAS is not really OK
Yeah, it tends to always endorse US Rep Lloyd Doggett (Dem), but in a sort back handed, I-guess-there's-no-alternative kind of way. AAS knows its serves a liberal audience, but I think it would love to have the readership of, say, the San Diego Union-Tribune or the Orange County Register.
