Is the Trinity Broadcasting Network tax-exempt? |
|
And if so, should they be blatantly shilling for a political candidate?
Let alone one who fits the description of the Antichrist (other than for his stupidity)

...if the donors did not get a tax write off. I am guessing a lot of folks would suddenly be looking for somewhere else to put there money. Doesn't it work out nicely when you can gain righteousness through a donation to a religious group and get a tax write off.

2. Who owns TBN, is that Pat Robertson's network? Regardless though... |
|
...if they make a profit they must pay taxes. The real question ought to be what accounting practices they are allowed as a religious affiliated network that would exempt them from fully disclosing what they earn and what they spend to conduct their business affairs.

if they are tax-exempt. I would assume that they are. It would make sense that they would want to be and they could certainly claim to meet tax-exempt purposes. Though I agree they may very well have crossed the line with respect to endorsements of political candidates.
TBN was founded by Paul and Jan Crouch. I believe there are rumors floating about that hush money has been paid because of a homosexual encounter between Paul Crouch and a former employee. Jan Crouch reminds me a lot of the former Tammy Faye Bakker.
Pat Robertson's media empire was CBN - which I understand he sold to the Family channel for a small fortune several years back.

6. TBN is specified on Hoover's Online as a privately held company... |
|
I have no idea what their tax status actually is overall, but I would think that, since it's definitely a for-profit concern, it would be liable to taxation.
Here's the company profile from Hoover's Online: Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN) is the world's largest Christian-themed television network. The company creates much of its programming in-house, including its flagship program, Praise the Lord. Other programming comes from TV ministries and a production company run by Matt Crouch, one of the sons of TBN founders Paul and Jan Crouch. TBN has launched several digital networks including its JCTV channel aimed at young adults. The company owns more than 23 TV stations. TBN also funds and produces Christian-themed films, such as the successful movie The Omega Code. The company began as a single UHF outlet in Orange County, California.
