Dubya's IQ higher than Kerry's? WTF??
Sorry if this has been previously posted but...according to an article in the NYT:

<snip>

"...the young George W. Bush probably had a higher I.Q. than did the young John Kerry.

That, at least, is the conclusion of Steve Sailer, a conservative columnist at the Web magazine Vdare.com and a veteran student of presidential I.Q.'s. During the last presidential campaign Mr. Sailer estimated from Mr. Bush's SAT score (1206) that his I.Q. was in the mid-120's, about 10 points lower than Al Gore's.

Mr. Kerry's SAT score is not known, but now Mr. Sailer has done a comparison of the intelligence tests in the candidates' military records. They are not formal I.Q. tests, but Mr. Sailer says they are similar enough to make reasonable extrapolations.

Mr. Bush's score on the Air Force Officer Qualifying Test at age 22 again suggests that his I.Q was the mid-120's, putting Mr. Bush in about the 95th percentile of the population, according to Mr. Sailer. Mr. Kerry's I.Q. was about 120, in the 91st percentile, according to Mr. Sailer's extrapolation of his score at age 22 on the Navy Officer Qualification Test.

<snip>

:wtf:

Then I must be a mensa genius if Bush has an IQ in the mid 120s...

1. This has been posted, and the 'study' was by a conservative.
I'll repeat what i said earlier: Anyone who sees both men speak for 5 minutes knows which one should be president and which one should be bagging your groceries.

16. I know it is bunk...
and you know it is bunk...but it was in my hometown paper today and the dumbasses here in Memphis will read it and take it as the friggin' gospel... I am so sick of the SCLM posting crap like this and all that Mary Cheney mess while skirting, dodging, and ignoring the lies that spew like lava from the WH. One of the instances of Cheney lying during the VP debate (the never met Edwards thing) was called a "blooper" by the press. Blooper my ass...

And, I doubt Bush scored 1206 on the SAT unless he paid someone else to take it for him.

BTW, do you have a link for this article?

number one) If Bush the dyslexic scored 1206 on his SAT's without help or cheating I still wouldn't believe it!

I looked into this a while back and found that 1200 is the MINIMUM SAT score to attend Yale.

how convenient is that?

Number two) SAT's are no indication of IQ

My SAT score was 1211, but my IQ tests @ 145 - no real correlation.

This 'Reporter' is a schill.

12. 1) I'd have to see the paperwork, not someone's report of it
I'm always amazed at people's willingness to believe a self-report of a standardized test score.

2) I'd have to be convinced that * took the test himself rather than arrange for someone else to do it for him, which he clearly had the means to arrange way back then, and security/identity checks were much more casual

3) he MAY have been that bright back then, but drug and alcohol abuse may have taken a toll since then

14. Look, it's probably bullshit, but even if it isn't...
...there's been an awful lot of cocaine and alcohol working overtime on bush's IQ since 1970.

He may have been a very smart kid at one time, but he's lost it along the way to becoming a born-again powermonger. All that remains is a sort of basic animal cunning, an instinct for political gamesmanship, and a howdy-doody attitude that disarms his critics.

it, then it makes him less admirable. * never reads or questions, relies on idealogy, and refuses to use his intellect. He may have an IQ larger than Kerry but he is much less intelligent. I've never believed IQ is all that meaningful. What matters is how what you do in your life and how important learning is to you.

26. IQ can't be discerned from SAT scores. This is someone trying
to combat the perception that Bush is stupid. Whether Bush is stupid or not in reality, the fact is that he acts stupid, makes uninformed decisions, cannot seem to think in complex terms, and he says stupid things over and over again. His behavior and thinking, therefore, reflects a stupid person. Whether he has enough brain cells to score high on an IQ test becomes irrelevant, then.

But having said that, there is no evidence that IQ can be discerned by SAT or other test scores, except IQ tests.

Anyway, I though the SATs were scored in multiples of 10.
