My excellent Vegas voting adventure!
Edited on Sun Oct-24-04 05:10 PM by StevenD
I, my wife and our 20 year old son took a short drive today to cast our votes. We are transplants from California and this is our first general election vote on Nevada. In California you are not allowed to wear campaign buttons while at the polls. Not knowing the Nevada law, my wife and I wore our Kerry buttons.

Early voting is nice. There were short but steady lines this early Sunday PM. Poll workers were friendly and efficient. They made my wife take off her button, but said nothing to me when I came to the head of the queue. We voted on touch screen machines which were easy to read and use. You had ample time to review your ballot and remedy any mistakes. The last screen was a summary of your ballot which after you verified it was correct you hit “next”. The machine then printed out a paper record and gave you the opportunity to verify that it was correct. You then hit “cast ballot” and the machine electronically cast your ballot and kept the paper record.

Three more Kerry votes!

1. Good Job
Doesn't it feel so good. I can't wait to do it here in PA.

I would love to see some of the red states turn blue!!!

3. Voted today myself
Here in Tallahassee--There was a line of some 150 people, and it stayed consistant at that length the whole 45 minutes I was there--so that was good. Going early on a Sunday Morning, it was not what I expected, I must admit. But it was heartening to see.

4. Congrats! I voted early for Gore in Las Vegas, Nevada.
And to be honest, I thought nothing of voting on this machine until after the Florida debacle. I'm glad they have hard copy verification now. Excellent! I hope Nevada goes for Kerry!

5. Welcome to DU, fellow Las Vegan!
I'm a transplant from Florida who schooled in California.

Early voting here is terrific, two full weeks with venues everywhere, and I love that our touch screens have paper trails. You even get to print and check the paper version before officially casting the ballot.

My only grief is with the nonpartisan races, judges and justices of the peace. It took me several internet hours the other night to decipher them, looking for the stated/likely Dem in all cases. I visited at least 40 or 50 related websites. The more liberal Las Vegas Sun had a good breakdown of the ballot measures. I made my choices first, then looked at their recommendations. We agreed on 8 of 10. The one I was most unsure of, I changed to their opinion, but stuck with my guns on the other. Didn't want to be a pure robotic simpleton:)

6. Agree
Made my own choices for ballot measures...there was enough info in the sample ballot mailing. Used the Sun for judicial recommendations.
