Bush is Unbeatable
or so they said last year. Just for fun I culled somes snips for your enjoyment. The last one is an especially fun read from Dick Morris.

Is Bush unbeatable?
Terence Jeffrey (archive)

April 16, 2003

The president's name was George Bush. He had just won a stunning victory in the Middle East, and his approval rating was soaring -- although some worried about his handling of the economy.

It is irresistible to compare the political prospects President George H.W. Bush faced 12 years ago with those his son faces today.

But don't dwell on similarities. The differences are the real story.

Four More Years?

The invincibility question
by Patrick J. Buchanan

.....

s George Bush unbeatable?" Suddenly this summer that became the question du jour of cable TV and the Sunday talkfests. That it is being asked suggests that many consider it impossible that President Bush will lose to any of the current crop of Democratic candidates. From every standpoint—history, issues, money, persona—the defeat of George W. Bush in 2004 appears improbable.

Will Bush's Campaign Finance Coffers Make Him Unbeatable?
The third quarter fundraising totals are in and Bush has raised approximately $49.5 million for his re-election campaign, more than all nine of the Democratic party hopefuls combined, CNN reports.

And the most fun to ridicule:

Bush almost unbeatable in 2004 election: Dick Morris
Dick Morris, the architect of President Clinton's 1996 campaign victory, says it's all a bit academic, because George W. Bush is in an almost unbeatable position.

1. We really have come a LONG way and it's
very good to remember that! And we have such a long way to go, too! Whew!

7. how we got here
I'd like to give a huge thanks to Howard Dean for having the guts early on to speak truth to power on Iraq. The man has guts and we owe him a lot.

We also need to take his advice on permanent campaign. I just watched The Hunting of the President and am so damned mad all over again. The only way to combat the bastards is with our own think tanks, our own "Federalist" society, and our own talking heads. We need to keep giving to the cause after November 3 or we'll end up facing impeachment again.

(Interesting side note to the movie, many people blamed the media. I don't remember hating the media so much during the Clinton years. Maybe I'm not remembering right. Anyway, we need to take it back and we need a think tank to help us do that. I don't want it liberal. I just want it fair and honest.)

8. Everything you said, Hamlette!
You're so right! It's necessary to remember how we got here!

And where we have to go from here..we shall learn from our history!

9. Fair and Honest is liberal.
We can't settle for what currently passes as balanced: our side and lies from the other side. Most of the repug's positions are indefensible. As long as that continues to be the case, one-sidedness is a virtue.

2. Ha! All great reads. Sorta like reading 30s era "Democracy is over" op-eds
The neocons thought Dubya's presidency would be a sequel to his daddy's presidency--not a remake.

Dubya = Poppy
Osama = Noriega
Iraq = Iraq
WMDs = bogus Kuwaiti 'torture' claims
Bechtel = Halliburton

and of course...

Kerry = Clinton

3. LOL
I think that Kerry has done a fantastic job and it's good to see the optimism on DU today.

4. Kerry is the distance runner, the true thoroughbred.
I had my doubts way back, must say, I realise now He Is The One that can do this.
I would trust that guy with my childrens lives, I wouldn't trust Bush alone in a room with my six-pack.

5. Excellent!
It would be a worthwhile effort to remind each pundit of their embarrassment of bon mots, faux 'reporting' and flowers they threw at *'s funky feet!

6. Its Beginning To Look a Lot Like Kerry
It's beginning to look a lot like Kerry
Ev'rywhere you go;
Take a look in people's faces, glistening once again
With cherry cheeks and bright eyes aglow.
It's beginning to look a lot like Kerry,
Pumpkins and cornstalks,
But the prettiest sight to see is the paycheck that will be
In your own mailbox.

A pair of American-made boots and health care
Is the wish of Barney and Ben;
Clean air and water and a park to go for a walk
Is the hope of Janice and Jen;
And Mom and Dad can hardly wait for their son to come home again.

It's beginning to look a lot like Kerry
Ev'rywhere you go;
There's a tree in the Grand Hotel, one in the park as well,
The sturdy kind that doesn't mind the snow.
It's beginning to look a lot like Kerry;
Soon the bells will start,
And the thing that will make them ring is the song that you sing
Right within your heart.

11. And Kerry couldn't possibly win the nomination.
Absolute impossibility. He didn't have the money, his campaign staff was being shuffled around... he should have dropped out in December...

Don't you love it when people count their chickens before they hatch?
