How do you post images from your desktop?

1. you don't. you get an account at photobucket or some such

hosting site, upload your pics and post from there.

1) Download the image you to your computer
2) Go to photobucket.com and open a free account
3) Upload the image to your new account.
4) When it is uploaded below will appear some code.
5) Cut and paste the third set of code to be able to post to forums like DU

You don't have to go through all that if you want to use a pic from an existing published website with the photo you're after to share. See above, what I said.

7. You can't do it from your desktop

You need to upload the picture onto the "internets". Most people use a photo hosting service like the previous poster mentioned. Photo bucket was it?

Think about it. In order for people to see a picture on your desktop they'd have to be able to get into your computer. You don't want that! :hi:

11. You have to type in the URL

from a picture that is on a server. You can't post one directly from your hard disk.

One of the ways to do that is to right click on the picture, then go down to the bottom of the menu and click on properties, then highlight the URL, left click on it and click "Copy". That copies it to your clipboard, and you just paste it into your post, either by clicking the clipboard icon, or using the edit menu and clicking on paste.

It took me quite awhile to figure out how to do it, even after reading directions. That's why I spelled it out in such detail. Just in case the reader is as dense as I am when it comes to these things. :)

there are tons more around. You have to upload your pic from your drive to the site then it is postable...

But if you want to post a pic from an existing site, click and hold on the pic (me Mac, pc is prob different) and choose 'open in new window', then you will get the url address of the .jpeg or .gif ender. Just copy that address, paste in your reply, and voila!

8. But the only thing bad

about that is that you are hot-linking to that site sucking the person's bandwidth. In other words, for it to show here you are using that person's site. Not cool. It is better to download it and use a site that is set up to host pics for this explicit purpose but what you say is correct just not really good netiquette.
