28. Nah. The fundamentalists fight among themselves constantly |
|
They don't agree about anything. That's why they are constantly forming new churches. Schisms constantly form in their congregations, and then half of them leave in a huff and form a new church, and then that group starts the in-fighting, and so on....
They are not a reliable voting bloc.

|
...if a third of the country were real fundamentalists Bush's number's would be way higher, his approval number wouldn't be below 50%.I understand such people fight amongest themselves but even with groups and sub groups I think Bush's numbers would be higher.I think these sort are always talking themselves up,saying there are more of them then there really are.

CSpan this afternoon, and Jesse Jackson and Jerry Falwell were both on, talking about how the evangelical vote was going to swing ... What was the implication here? That JJ and JF are comparable?
Also, I was a little alarmed to hear about Jerry Falwell's boast that the number of evangelicals in the nation is growing ... that's a little scary ... I think we need to bolster the mainline churches!

If you go to one of the mainline Churches or have ever gone please support them. They are struggling in this political atmosphere. They do alot of work for liberal causes all over the world. I quit going for a few years because I felt I did not need the Church. I am a very spiritual person and didn't need guidance. I realize they need me and others who want to help put Christ back into Christian. I won't let the right wingers steal my faith or true Christianity.

31. Look more closely and see how they define "evangelical" |
|
Their definitions pull a lot of very disparate groups into what they call "evangelicals." Their definition includes lots of groups with very different points of view.
There's no "there" there.

keep the rabble too busy with too much children, too much owning to the company store, just too much to be able to have a moment to think and way big faith that your personal grease of life, your hard work, your survival somehow cashes in for someone more important than you... church/state, or a blending of.

29. I wonder at those huge proclaimed numbers they |
|
are claiming. The Evangelical lifestyle is extremely strict and filled with fear of hell and fear of "sliding back" or becoming non evangelical and going to hell. I think they have a large dropout rate. Its kind of Borg like and scares me...they are extremely rigid in their views and while smiling at you and claiming they love you they will at the same time truly believe that you are destined for hell. It's chilling that they can hold those two views of another human being in their heart.

42. You Know what I wonder? |
|
i'm presuming many people come to the evangelical side of things when later in life after they've sinned up a storm.
I'm wondering if this increased number of evangelicals is due to religion in general not being something taught within families as much in these last few generations.

43. Is there a story online? |
|
"Evangelicals" are those who preach their faith, hoping to gain converts. Members of many denominations can be Evangelical.
A "Fundamentalist" believes in following the scriptural fundamentals of their religion--per their interpretation. Many Fundamentalists want to be let alone--such as the Amish & Mennonites.
The "Dominionists" want their religious beliefs to shape our government.
These groups overlap but are not identical. Definitions are important. So, where's the story?
