I'm sure they're going to be delighted with that getting out :)

1. Let's cause a panic
How can we covertly spread this message "Bush aides very worried" through all the Neocon blogs and right-wing media? We need a campaign to break their will.

11. I agree.
Now they realize that nobody is buying their bullsh*t.

My theory is that because of the wide spread use of the internets, (thanks to Al Gore) people are doing their own research and not relying on MSM, therefore they know the truth.

I realize people used the internets in 2000, but I think it's use has multiplied many times. People are concerned about the future.

GO KERRY/EDWARDS...

23. I agree....
Plus, the news spread on the Internets eventually make it to main stream media--they are forced to cover the facts much better than before.

16. Ditto...
And I heard a GOP Pollster on Fox News of all places speechless when Geraldo Rivera asked him what his thoughts were. He stuttered and stuttered and finally said "I'm really concerned. Bush should be up by 7 or 8 points by now and he's not. I'm just...I'm just really concerned."

Playing possum won't energize their base, it'll deflate it :)

19. Exactly
Rove's MO is to create an aura of inevitability about Bush's impending "victory." This blows a huge hole in that.

They are good at it. They like for people to believe it is inevitable that they are going to win...If we can puncture their belief system, stick it to 'em. :)

47. Puncturing sense of Bush* inevitability key to avoiding stolen election.
Part of the Rove plan is that if the election is in fact close, it would be easier for them to manipulate public opinion while they winkle it away under the public's nose, if the public believes that Bush is inevitably going to win anyway.

So puncture that sense of invulnerability. Bush is very vulnerable and more and more people know it. A greater number of people have stopped believing that Bush has a dynastic right to rule.

48. Vinnie's brick card explanation ...

Vinnie's brick/card explanation in "My Cousin Vinny" explains Bush to a tee. They show you everything about the guy. But it's all smoke and mirrors.

BTW, I honestly think that Al Franken will be owed a great debt if Bush does go. He's been on these guys cases for a long time now. And he has helped launch a radio network dedicated to debunking all the right wing freeper lies. They can't get away with it any more!!!!!

6. My thoughts exactly.
I already posted on another thread that I want the published polls to remain a statistical tie until 11/2. Good news is really nice to hear, but I'm afraid that voters will get lazy and feel they aren't needed.

I feel the same about this kind of info. If shrub's supporters think he's in trouble, they'll flock to the polls to help!

20. Bush's hard core would rally to his side
but "soft" supporters want to be with a winner. I have heard of someone comfortably ahead saying it was close to avoid complacency, I have never known a political campaign to lie about being way behind to energize their base (I would be interested in hearing about examples if there have been). Rove's strategy in the past has been just the opposite, to try to project "inevitability", in order to keep soft supporters of his opponent from gong to the polls.

49. Exactly. You never EVER let on that you're worried, even if you know
you're cruising toward an historic landslide. What you say to fire up your supporters is: "The other side is geared up for a massive get out the vote effort; we must do the same" or some such. This happened in SC in '02. Turnout was huge on both sides for a non-presidential election year. Theirs was just a little more huge.

31. just my opinion
but the close polls could allow the people to believe a bush win that is manimpulated by the repukes.

bogus polls.
voter registrations destroyed.
voter list purges.
voter challenges at the poles.
outright voter intimidation.

and to pull it all together, tampering with electronic vote tabulation.

cheney has said it will be bush 52, kerry 48.

in my gut i feel like it is going to be a kerry landslide. but with all the other factors mentioned above, they could still steal it.

32. I don't think voters will get lazy this time around.
People who are anti-Bush are passionately anti-Bush. And (as I've noticed around here lately) people are getting passionately pro-Kerry. I don't think the polls will keep anybody home this time. (with the possible exception of *-supporters who support him as enthusiastically as the news rags that endorse him).

4. Nah - that's their game, not ours
We smell freeper about 2 seconds after they appear here. It's interesting, but I truly believe the thinking people reside here at DU.

It would be 1.) too easy to spread the meme on their forums 2.) they would just say "God will choose our president, not you" and 3.) too low to the dirt, and I don't play that way.

50. I doubt it ...

Bush will pardon everyone who can finger the money men before he leaves office. This will short-circuit any effort to prosecute the big boys since those prosecutions ALWAYS rely on the testimony of little guys who copped plea bargains.

21. Interesting. Here in Oregon,
the radio announcer said last week that "the Bush campaign has conceded Oregon to Kerry" and they will stop running ads here.

Instead, they plan to concentrate all their energy on the 'swing' states.

I wonder what this does to Repug (and Democratic) motivation?

26. Come on
If you aren't getting a little schadenfreude out of this:

Let's pretend for ONE minute that this story said, "Kerry aides very worried."

Would any of us think it was a brilliant plan by Shrum to motivate the base or GOTV? Would anyone think it was good for us? No - we'd be freaking out.

Can't we enjoy this for a little bit without looking for the downside? Maybe, just maybe, Rove isn't a genius. Maybe he's just a power-hungry, cut-throat thug.

I'm not saying to relax - or get complacent. But let's not assume everything they do is part of a brilliant Machiavellian plan that we are helpless against.

I, for one, say "HA HA." (Thank you Nelson)

That's all there is at this point. Get the people to go vote. I have a friend who didn't vote in '00 assuming "Gore would just win anyways".

Well, he's bitched about Bush's environmental policies and will vote for Kerry. I'm sure there will be many more that just didn't know how bad Bush would be and either didn't care and didn't vote or voted for Nader.

Liberals won't make that mistake this time. Nader's campaign is dead in the water. The main thing now is making sure the GOP won't play dirty tricks at the polls. I encourage anyone that has the time on election day to work at the polls and make sure this is a fair and free election (or close to it).
