Do any states reveal their early-voting numbers before Nov. 2?

7. It's not that it's great keeping it a secret,

it's that releasing early voting results would be worse than the crappy polls we keep reading about. Who'd bother to vote on Nov 2nd if early results showed their candidate losing? It's the problem they have in western states, where late voters on the West Coast already have access to a lot of East Coast and Midwest results before they make it to the polling place.

In 1980 Jimmy Carter conceded about an hour or so before polls closed on the East Coast, and I understand lots of voters either left the polling place, or never left home in the first place.

Keep in mind, that it's not just a president we elect, but the entire House of Representatives, a third of the Senate, lots of mayors, governors, state reps and state senators and on and on.

I think perhaps a three week long voting window (as we have here in Kansas) might me somewhat too long, but advance mail ballots are a godsend to the elderly and infirm who might have trouble making it to the polls.

We should go to a 24 hour voting period on a weekend day.

For the record, I HATE early voting. Abhor it.

The freepers were celebrating a few days ago cuz some geezer voted early, then promptly died. I think if you're not alive on Election Day, you shouldn't vote.

I think absentee voting should ONLY be for people who are literally out of the area, or too infirm to make it to the polling place. I hate the idea of a 6-week voting period.

I think we should vote for 48 hours over a weekend, perhaps 56 hours. From Friday at 6:00 'til midnight Sunday.

6. No, for the reason that the early or absentee ballots are not opened

until after the polls close.

This is in California and I am sure is sure is everyplace. There are many who vote absentee in California, and many, mostly seniors, can even become permanent absentee voters. They get their ballot automatically, do not need to request one every time.

When the polls close the absentee ballots are counted and the results are posted immediately. And, in many cases, those absentee counts would predict the direction of the vote.
